Abstract

O autor propõe uma nova perspectiva em teoria da história que possibilite pensar a transformação e a emancipação sociais a partir do passado, reinventando-o e restituindo-lhe a capacidade de revelação. Remete à alegoria da história que Walter Benjamin formula com referência a um quadro de Paul Klee, Angelus novus, como a representação do "anjo da história". Analisa o processo histórico ocidental nos termos de uma equação entre raízes — o permanente, singular — e opções — o variável, indeterminado.

This article proposes a new perspective on the theory of history, one which considers social transformation and emancipation from the vantage point of the past, reinventing it and restoring its capacity for revelation. The authors makes reference to Walter Benjamin's allegory of history based on Paul Klee's painting, Angelus novus, a representation of the "angel of history". The Western historical process is analyzed in terms of the equation involving roots — that which is permanent and singular — and choices — which are variable, indeterminate.
