dc.description.abstract | The quality of life on Earth is linked inextricably to the overall quality of the environment. However, waste products resulting from human activity, have recently become a serious problem that demands an urgent solution. This has created an urgent need for a remediation technique that is both effective and not too costly. Bioremediation - the process by which living organisms, usually plants or microorganisms, are used to decrease or remove environmental pollutants - responds to this need, since it uses techniques that are both simple and low-cost and is generally well accepted by the public (since it is a natural process) when compared with traditional remediation techniques. The main goal of this monograph is to review the general aspects of bioremediation, its potential uses and major limitations. | por |
