a homeostasia interna.
à adaptação a estímulos externos e internos stressantes.
CONCLUSÃO: O stress psicológico crónico consegue condicionar a fisiopatologia do cólon.
INTRODUCTION: The word stress is frequently employed in ordinary daily life, and is considered the cause of many situations of anxiety and despair, often some signals and gastrointestinal symptoms. Yet when faced with a real and objective pathology, stress is no longer part of the diagnostic or therapeutic concerns, and is replaced by an almost mythological role without it being considered adequately. OBJECTIVE: Review the influence of stress in the pathophysiology of the diseases of the colon. DEVELOPMENT: Today, the neurosciences show increasing evidence of how the mind and body are integrated, how the perception of the world around us can influence and structurally modify the brain and body, changing who we are: a mind that emerges from a brain and a body that are built lifelong. The central nervous system and the remaining body are related to maintain the internal homeostasis. The external events are judged by the sieve of the central nervous system, and when they are interpreted as a threat, they lead to the activation of stress. The relationship between the brain and colon, called brain-gut axis, is extremely sensitive to stress which is a physiological reaction in nature, and may be activated by psychological events, real or imaginary. Colon, although not essential to life, is quite independent body, with its own nervous, immune and endocrine systems, and an intestinal flora. This organ is extremely susceptible to the action of stress, which alters its functioning in order to adapt to external and internal stressful stimuli. When the activation of the stress becomes chronic, it ceases to be adaptive and causes physical changes throughout the brain-gut axis. These modifications influence the symptoms and signs in the spectrum of functional diseases and inflammatory bowel disease. CONCLUSION: Chronic psychological stress can condition the pathophysiology of colon. It is imperative to consider the environmental and social factors in the etiology of diseases of the colon with a preventive approach, whenever possible, with the identification of stress history or patients at risk of suffering from stress, to reduce this etiological factor. |
