Valorização agrícola de lamas de ETAR e efluentes pecuários

Abstract

A defesa do Ambiente no seu todo obriga ao tratamento dos resíduos orgânicos provenientes de ETAR urbanas e industriais, de explorações agropecuárias e de explorações agroindustriais. Estes resíduos, normalmente designados por lamas e efluentes pecuários, poderão gerar problemas ambientais e contaminar os meios onde são aplicados, com graves implicações para a fauna e flora dos mesmos. As características das lamas são muito variáveis, dependendo do teor do afluente à ETAR e do grau de degradação da matéria orgânica, entre outros. Esta variabilidade conduz a lamas muito diferentes, cuja composição pode condicionar, ou até impedir, a sua aplicação em solos agrícolas. A composição de efluentes pecuários varia com a proporção de fezes, urina, sendo estas influenciadas pelas características fisiológicas do animal e pelo seu regime alimentar, entre outros. O uso destes efluentes na agricultura tem bastantes vantagens pois fornece nutrientes à flora, reduz a quantidade de fertilizantes minerais a aplicar no solo e melhora as condições do mesmo. Para analisar as vantagens ambientais que a valorização destes resíduos pode trazer, torna-se crucial avaliar e acompanhar todo o seu processo de geração, tratamento e aplicação para salvaguardar a preservação do Ambiente. Com esta dissertação pretende-se transmitir todos os ensinamentos recolhidos através de um trabalho de campo (aplicação para valorização, visitas de campo, deteção de ilícitos ambientais e remoção de resíduos contaminados) de modo caracterizar a realidade atual e enquadrá-la na legislação em vigor. Os resultados a atingidos permitem quantificar a produção de resíduos, o seu potencial de valorização e o total de resíduos valorizados legalmente.

The protection of the Environment as a whole requires the treatment of organic waste from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, of agricultural and agro-industrial plants. These wastes, commonly called sludge and livestock waste, may pose environmental problems and contaminate the site where they are applied, with serious implications for their fauna and flora. The sludge characteristics are highly variable, depending on the content of the influent reaching the plant and on the degradation degree of the organic matter, among others. This variability leads to very different sludges, whose composition can restrict, or even prevent, their application in agricultural soils. The composition of the livestock waste varies with the proportion of feces and urine, which are influenced by physiological characteristics of the animal and its diet, among others. The application of this waste in agriculture has various advantages, since it provides nutrients to the flora, reduces the amount of mineral fertilizers applied to the soil and improves its conditions. In order to analyze the environmental benefits of the valorization of this waste, it becomes crucial to evaluate and monitor the whole process of production, treatment and application to safeguard the protection of the Environment. This dissertation aims at transmitting all the lessons collected through fieldwork (application for recovery, field trips, detection of environmental crimes and removal of contaminated waste) in order to characterize the current reality and framing it into the legislation . The results achieved allow the quantification of the waste production, their potential for valorization and the total of legally applied waste.
