The thermal comfort that buildings provide to their inhabitants is extremely important. Therefore, there have always been great investments by many companies in order to find materials and systems that contribute to the increase in thermal comfort of buildings. The radiant floor heating system is one of the examples of these systems that have emerged in the last decades. Since this is a recent system there are some aspects that have not been fully analyzed. The aim of this paper is to make a parametric study and obtain abacus for project support, based on numerical modelling with the Finite Element Method applied to the problem of heat conduction. A modelling of a radiant floor heating system is used, trough Matlab software. The parametric study analyzes the influence that thickness and thermal properties of floor surface and screed layer, pipe diameter and the spacing between tubes have in the amount of heat that is transmitted through the floor. In the second stage of this study, abacus for determining the entry flow temperature of the water are obtained, according to the thermal requirements of each room, for various floor coverings and spacings between tubes. It was noticed that, considering the studied parameters individually, the thermal conductivity of the floor and the spacing between tubes are the parameters that most influence in the thermal behavior of the radiant floor heating system. However, it is concluded that the relationship between the thickness and thermal conductivity, in other words, the thermal resistance, is the main parameter that must be taken into account in the design stage.
