Vigilância e disciplinamento da luxúria clerical no espaço luso-americano, 1640-1750

Abstract

Este estudo tem como objectivo analisar a acção e o impacto dos mecanismos de vigilância e disciplinamento da luxúria clerical no espaço luso-americano no período compreendido entre 1640 e 1750. Depois da explicitação das unidades de pesquisa e de uma reflexão sobre o estado da questão, um primeiro momento de análise deter-se-á na acção contra os delitos sob jurisdição da Inquisição: solicitação e sodomia. Numa segunda fase examinar-se-á a mesma acção, porém na esfera dos comportamentos luxuriosos não heresiarcas que estavam sob jurisdição das estruturas episcopais de controlo, tais como o concubinato e outras formas de ilícito trato entre os clérigos e os paroquianos. Neste contexto, para adensar o foco analítico numa perspectiva microscópica e comparativa eleger-se-ão como unidades de análise os bispados de Coimbra, Maranhão e a capitania de Minas. Um último capítulo tratará de aferir se a acção analisada teve impacto nos comportamentos clericais ou, dizendo de outra forma, se os mecanismos de controlo foram efectivos.

This paper envisages the analysis of the action and impact of the tools of monitoring and discipline of the clerical lust in the Luso-American space from 1640 to 1750. After considering the units of analysis and the state of the question, one first moment of enquire has the purpose to study the action against the clerical lustful crimes under jurisdiction of the Inquisition: solicitation and sodomy. A second step will be devoted to the exam of the same action in the sphere of the non-heresiarch lustful behaviors which were under the jurisdiction of the Episcopal structures of control, such as the concubinage and other ways of illicit cohabitation between the clergy and the parishioners. Here, to deepen the inquiry in a microscopic and comparative way, the bishoprics of Coimbra, Maranhão and captaincy of Minas will be selected as units of analysis. A last chapter will argue if the analyzed action had impact on the behavior of the clergy or, to say in another way, if the mechanisms of control were effective.
