dc.description.abstract | Sexuality represents health and well-being in the life of any human being, and its importance should be acknowledged. During pregnancy, a remarkable and unique stage in a woman’s life, psychological, physical, social and cultural changes occur, altering a woman’s sexuality. This paper embraces a review of the primary modifications, dysfunctions, fears and complications that occur in sexuality during pregnancy. Frequency, satisfaction, desire, orgasm, sexual positions and dyspareunia, as well as sexual activity’s trimesters variation, were addressed in the paper. The existence of complications and fears and/or myths was also evaluated, so as to elaborate a care plan suitable for the pregnant family. One concluded that there are profound negative alterations in sexuality during pregnancy (a decrease in sexual frequency, satisfaction, desire and orgasm and an increase of dyspareunia), especially due to physical changes in the pregnant woman and fears and myths that concern the future parents. Health professionals, especially doctors, find themselves in a unique position, either in problem anticipation, and either in the promotion of an active sexual life, whereby they should pay more attention to such prevalent problematic | por |
