Autismo: o doente, a família e a sociedade

Abstract

A Perturbação do Espectro Autista é uma patologia que afeta o neurodesenvolvimento, cujos sintomas se manifestam nos primeiros três anos de vida, apresentando défices sociais, comunicacionais e comportamentais. O trabalho realizado teve por objetivo sintetizar e identificar os principais problemas detetados no doente autista, na família e na sociedade. Com este propósito, foram abordados diversos temas, nomeadamente, relativos à etiologia, sintomatologia, diagnóstico e tratamento. Posteriormente houve um especial destaque nas dificuldades e nas estratégias adotadas pela família e sociedade, com foco na orientação realizada pelo especialista em cuidados de saúde primários. Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica no sítio da internet de artigos entre 2000 e 2016, complementada com artigos anteriores e páginas online de associações autistas. Conclui-se que o autismo é uma patologia multifatorial crónica, com prevalência crescente, diagnosticada de forma subjetiva. Sem cura, a intervenção deverá ser realizada precocemente, a nível comportamental e social, tendo como principais intervenientes a família e os especialistas em cuidados de saúde primários, auxiliada pelo tratamento farmacológico. Foram ainda identificadas as dificuldades diárias das famílias dos doentes, bem como a intervenção possível a ser realizada, de modo a diminuir o impacto desta doença no seio familiar e na vivência diária, melhorando, assim, a qualidade de vida do autista e da sociedade que o rodeia. Por fim, reconheceu-se a importância dos médicos especialistas em cuidados de saúde primários na identificação e intervenção precoce no autista e família. Muitos estudos ainda deverão ser realizados a nível etiológico e preventivo, de forma a ajudar o especialista em cuidados de saúde primários na orientação das famílias em risco, somando-se a necessidade de mais apoio ao doente e à família, para garantir qualidade de vida. Autism Spectrum disorder is a pathology which affects the neurodevelopment, whose symptoms start appearing in the first three years of a child`s life, exihibiting social, communicational and behaviour deficits. The main goal of the assignment carried out was to synthesize and identify the most important problems detected in an autistic patient, the individual`s family and in society. For that purpose, were addressed various topics related to etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment. Afterwards there was a special emphasis in the dificulties and strategies adopted by the autistic family and the society, focusing in the orientation fulfilled by the specialist in primary health care. A literature search was performed on website, in articles between 2000 and 2016, complemented with previous articles and online pages from autistic associations. It was concluded that autism is a cronical multifactor pathology, with a growing prevalence, diagnosed in a subjective way. Without cure, the intervention should be made at an early age, at a behaviour and social level, being its major intervenients family and the specialists in primary health care, supported by pharmacological treatment. There were also identified the daily difficulties of the patients and their families to reduce the impact of this disease in family environment and in their daily living, improving, in this way, a life quality of the autists and too the society surrounds them. Finally, the importance of specialist doctors in primary health care has been recognized in the early identification and intervention in the autist and family. Many studies should still be done on an etiological and preventive level in order to help the specialist in primary health care in the orientation of families which are at risk, adding the need of more support to the patient`s family to therefore guarantee life quality.
