This article identifies, within the architecture of credit, the situational elements which have been proved to be or are supposed to act as determining factors in preferences and choice, whilst also describing and illustrating the psychological aspects (many of which have already been tested in various research studies) that interact with them and influence the decision-maker. We aim to show that, even though corresponding to the classic intertemporal situation (judging the immediate against deferred gratification) and the standard behaviour to which this gives rise (e.g. a bias towards the present or a preference for the immediate), other specific features are added to typical credit situations. These result from the workings of the cognitive-affective complex associated with the decision-maker, which is characterized by functional uncertainty and instability. We also note how this eventually results in adaptive behaviour whose consequences may not always work to the best interests of the decision-maker.por
