Representações mentais da violência entre íntimos: estudo das ideologias associadas ao género

Abstract

O presente estudo teve como principal objetivo perceber se as representações mentais sobre violência entre parceiros íntimos estão associadas a atitudes sexistas, patriarcais e à legitimação da violência entre íntimos. O estudo realizou-se numa amostra da população geral, constituída por 90 indivíduos do sexo masculino e 110 do sexo feminino. Para este efeito foram utilizadas seis escalas diferentes para analisar as atitudes sobre os papéis de género, as atitudes sexistas, a legitimação da violência entre íntimos, assim como a prevalência da perpetuação e vitimização de abusos nas relações íntimas. Os resultados obtidos mostram que as mulheres têm atitudes mais igualitárias que os homens. Por sua vez, quanto maior a escolaridade dos indivíduos maior o igualitarismo. Relativamente às atitudes sexistas os resultados evidenciam que os homens revelam maior sexismo hostil e benevolente face as mulheres, e estas maior hostilidade e ressentimento face aos homens. O sexismo encontra-se associado à legitimação da violência. Por seu turno, a agressão psicológica e a coerção sexual perpetrada por homens é mais prevalente, como também são os homens quem mais justificam o uso da violência.

The present study had as main purpose to understand if the mental representation of violence between intimate partners are associated with sexist attitudes, patriarchal and violence legitimization in the couple intimacy. The study used a sample of the general population constituted by 90 males and 110 females. We used six different scales to analyze attitudes about gender roles, sexist attitudes, violence legitimization between intimate partners and the prevalence of abuse perpetuation and victimization in intimate relationships. The results show that women have more egalitarian attitudes than men. On the other hand, the higher the education, the greater the egalitarian attitudes. Relating to sexist attitudes, results show that men reveal more hostile and benevolent sexism towards women and women appear to reveal more hostility and resentment towards men. Sexism is associated with violence legitimization. In turn, psychological aggression and sexual coercion by men is more common in our sample, as well as justification of violence use.
