O Enoturismo na Região Demarcada do Douro: a Festa das Vindimas como produto turístico

Abstract

A presente investigação, conducente à obtenção do grau de Doutor em Turismo, Lazer e Cultura, ramo de Turismo e Desenvolvimento, na Universidade de Coimbra, aborda a temática do Enoturismo na Região Demarcada do Douro, mais especificamente a Festa das Vindimas. A tese apresenta, primeiramente, uma revisão da literatura onde são discutidas as premissas e as problemáticas atuais associadas ao Enoturismo, expondo uma visão global do tema, em particular na Região Demarcada do Douro (RDD). Ao longo da sua história a RDD sofreu diversas alterações que se repercutiram nas demarcações sucessivas e na importância relativa de cada uma das sub-regiões. No entanto, para a compreensão da dinâmica deste território, Património Mundial da Humanidade desde 2001, apenas faremos sobressair os marcos históricos mais relevantes para a compreensão do objeto de estudo. É também realizada uma análise da oferta e da procura e de formas de gestão do destino turístico. Definidos o objeto e os objetivos do estudo, foi realizada uma abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa, com base num trabalho de campo, com a aplicação de inquéritos por questionário e através da observação direta e/ou participante. Foi possível confirmar a importância do Enoturismo, em particular a Festa das Vindimas, na promoção do destino. Posteriormente, em consequência dos resultados obtidos, a investigação centra-se na definição do perfil do enoturista da Festa das Vindimas e a forma como ele vivencia a experiência.

The present investigation, which has been carried out to obtain the degree of Doctor in Tourism, Leisure and Culture, Tourism and Development branch, at the University of Coimbra, addresses the theme of Wine Tourism in the Douro Demarcated Region, more specifically, the Harvest Festival. Firstly, the thesis presents a review of the literature where we discuss the assumptions and the current problems associated with wine tourism, exposing a global vision of the theme, in particular in the Douro Demarcated Region (DDR). Throughout its history the DDR has undergone several changes which have reverberated in the successive demarcations and in the relative importance of each of the sub-regions. However, to understand the dynamics of this territory, which has been a World Heritage site since 2001, the most relevant landmarks were highlighted for the understanding of the studied topic. An analysis of supply and demand and management styles of the tourist destination was also carried out. Once set the theme and the objectives of this study, a qualitative and quantitative approach was followed, based on a fieldwork, with the implementation of surveys and through direct and/or participant observation. It was possible to confirm the importance of Wine Tourism, especially the Harvest Festival, for the promotion of the destination. Afterwards, as a consequence of the results obtained, the research focuses on the definition of the profile of the Wine Tourist of the Harvest Festival, and how he experiences the event.
