Arquitetura para invisuais : a experiência estética da habitação

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende refletir sobre como é possível construir uma experiência estética para um invisual. Tendo em conta que vivemos rodeados de espaços construídos e de objetos físicos, é imperativo perceber se a relação que temos com os mesmos enfraquece significativamente na supressão da visão, ou se, pelo contrário, esta relação se torna apenas diferente. Neste sentido, este tema é analisado no presente trabalho com o intuito de despertar no arquiteto a sua intrínseca, mas suprimida, consciência relativamente ao mesmo. Posto isto, enfatiza-se a necessidade de pensar sobre o que é a experiência estética e o que se altera na perceção da Arquitetura quando a visão deixa de existir. Decorrente desta ideia, são explorados quatro componentes da experiência: três sentidos não-visuais - ou seja, o tato, a audição e o olfato – e o movimento do corpo no espaço. Como outras formas artísticas os exploraram de forma mais assertiva que a Arquitetura - como a Escultura e a Arte Performativa - recorrese às mesmas para compreender a influência destes componentes na experiência estética. Por fim, eles são analisados em três projetos destinados a invisuais, com o intuito de compreender como podem ser aplicados na Arquitetura. A investigação teórica e a análise prática destes projetos tem como fim a elaboração de um projeto de uma habitação unifamiliar para um invisual e respetiva família.

This dissertation aims to reflect on how we can build an aesthetic experience for a blind person. Given that we live surrounded by the built environment and physical objects, it is imperative to understand whether the relationship we have with them weakens significantly in the suppression of vision, or if, on the contrary, this relationship becomes just different. Thus, the issue analyzed in this work has the intention of awakening the architect for its intrinsic, but suppressed, awareness of this subject. With this in mind, it emphasizes the need to think about what is the aesthetic experience and what changes in the perception of architecture when the vision ceases to exist. Resulting from this idea, this dissertation explores four components of experience: three non-visual senses – touch, hearing and smell – and body movement in space. Given that other artistic areas exploited them more assertively than Architecture – as Sculpture and Performance Art – this essay resorts to them to understand the influence of these components in the aesthetic experience. Finally, they are analyzed in three projects for blind people, in order to understand how they can be applied in Architecture. The theoretical research and practical analysis of these projects aim to draw up a project of a house for a blind man and his family.
