For this reason, the region of Latin America represents one of the areas where Sustainable Development can increase its relevance and tackle important challenges, as it presents one of the highest rates of urbanization of the world. During the last decades, Latin American communities have incorporated programs with the idea of promote sustainable urban development and safeguard heritage. But until now, it is still presenting problems unsolved, such as pollution, environmental degradation and detriment of social factors. Much of this situation is because the proposals do not promote solutions that achieve viable approaches for the real needs; therefore, these programs do not cover or solve all the requirements of society. To contribute in the search of solutions and detonate a good sustainable development in Latin America, it was created this article, which acts as a guide to encourage the reflection on the lifestyle of these communities and also promotes a pragmatic view through an understanding of the needs, deficiencies and problems that are currently produced in these communities. Presenting as an example the analysis of the city of Santiago de Queretaro, Mexico, where it can be visualized easier the problems exposed.
