Dinâmicas Territoriais em Albergaria-a-Velha

Abstract

O território português passou por fortes e profundas transformações nas últimas décadas. As mudanças ocorridas no país atingiram diversas áreas, tanto no que se refere a características imateriais, ao nível da cultura ou modo de vida, como da estrutura do território e características demográficas. Estas mudanças implicaram alterações substanciais na forma como a população se distribui no território e consequentemente na organização do espaço. A geografia, enquanto disciplina de síntese, afigura-se como fundamental na compreensão holística dos novos fenómenos territoriais, tornando-se peça fundamental na sua compreensão e na procura de novas soluções de ordenamento e planeamento que permitam a identificação das potencialidades e fragilidades do território, a sua coesão, a mitigação dos fenómenos de segregação espacial e funcional, tendo como objetivo o desenvolvimento do território. Esta dissertação, sob o tema “Dinâmicas Territoriais em Albergaria-a-Velha”, procura contextualizar, em primeiro lugar, o concelho de Albergaria-a-Velha na região envolvente, em particular na Região Centro e na sub-região do Baixo Vouga, através do enquadramento espacial, económico, demográfico e habitacional. De seguida, efetua-se uma sucinta caracterização do território concelhio, através da descrição das suas componentes biofísicas, do enquadramento dos seus instrumentos de planeamento, e de uma breve síntese histórica, assim como da dinâmica demográfica e habitacional. Esta reflexão abarca um período cronológico definido, entre 1991 e 2011, permitindo assim obter uma perspetiva de evolução do território. Por último, foi definida uma área de estudo, que corresponde quase na sua totalidade à freguesia de Albergaria-a-Velha. Após a devida caracterização territorial, descreve-se a evolução da sua malha urbana e a localização das suas principais atividades económicas, partindo, de seguida, para uma análise mais profunda das suas características demográficas e habitacionais, utilizando para tal o nível de desagregação máxima permitida, a subsecção estatística. Esta análise foi efetuada, de novo, tendo por base o período entre 1991 e 2011.

The Portuguese territory has gone through utterly deep changes in the last decades. The changes in the country have occurred at many levels, concerning not only immaterial aspects – culture and lifestyle, but also the territorial structure and demographic characteristics. These changes have caused a substantial alteration in the way the population is distributed in the territory and consequently in the spatial planning. Geography, as a science of synthesis, is fundamental in the holistic understanding of the new territorial phenomena. It is in fact a key instrument in the comprehension of those phenomena and in the search of new planning solutions that allow the identification of potentialities and fragilities of the territory, its cohesion and the mitigation of spatial and functional segregation phenomena, aiming at the development of the territory. This essay on “Territorial Dynamics in Albergaria-a-Velha” aims primarily at putting into context the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha in its surroundings, particularly in the Região Centro and in the sub-region of Baixo Vouga, through its spatial, economic, demographic and housing framing. Then follows a short characterization of the territory of the municipality, through the description of its biophysical components, the framing of its planning instruments and a brief summary of its history as well as its demographic and housing dynamics. This reflection comprises the period between 1991 and 2011, allowing us to have a perspective of the evolution of the territory. Lastly an area of study has been defined, corresponding to nearly the entire civil parish of Albergaria-a-Velha. After the due territorial characterization, there is description of its urban network and the localization of its main economic activities. This is followed by a deeper analysis of its demographic and housing characteristics, using for that purpose the maximum level of disaggregation allowed, the statistical subsection. This analysis was done based also on the period between 1991 and 2011.
