This research paper aimed to study the impact of socio-demographic and family variables on maternal investment in the baby, in the Angolan context, as well as to analyze the applicability of the Parental Investment in the Parental Child Scale and its subscales (Acceptance of parental role, Delight and Knowledge and Sensitivity) and to study some psychometric characteristics of this scale in the same context. To this end, a Sociodemographic Questionnaire was applied, as well as a General Questionnaire about Pregnancy and Birth and the Portuguese version of the Parental Investment in the Child Scale to a sample of 100 mothers of babies between 0 and 3 months, at Lubango’s Irene Neto Maternity Hospital, in Huila Province. Results related to PICS’s internal consistency show values below those that would be desirable for this type of instrument. The socialeconomic level, number of years the mother was in school, the gender and age of the baby have an influence on mothers investment, which is higher in mothers of a lower social-economic level, with less studies, with babies that are male and younger, within the studied age group. The results are analyzed based on some cultural specificities of the Angolan context.pt
