Mia Couto e Luandino Vieira: a ficção de fronteira nas obras editadas para o público infantojuvenil

Abstract

A presente pesquisa se debruça sobre a literatura infantojuvenil e questiona os rígidos limites entre literatura editada para crianças e jovens e literatura editada para adultos, discutindo se os dois tipos de escrita pertencem a universos distintos e se apresentam características específicas. A questão das faixas etárias se torna interessante no debate quando vista à luz de componentes textuais e imagéticas, assumindo dessa forma uma posição menos cartesiana. Como corpus da dissertação, foram escolhidas A chuva pasmada, do moçambicano Mia Couto e A guerra dos fazedores de chuva com os caçadores de nuvens: guerra para crianças, do angolano Luandino Vieira, obras editadas para a infância e adolescência. Os dois autores são conhecidos por escrever livros editados para ambos os públicos e, na atual investigação, podem ser vistos pontos em comum entre os dois tipos de texto, além de trazer para o primeiro plano alguns tópicos fulcrais ao se estudar as literaturas moçambicana a angolana de língua portuguesa. Para realizar a análise sob o prisma escolhido, primeiramente foi discutido o conceito de literatura infantojuvenil e suas especificidades históricas. Após uma breve contextualização, foi estudada a maneira como os textos se relacionam com a tradição e ancestralidade, criando pontes entre tempos e formas de pensamento. A água recebeu atenção especial nas duas obras, pois tanto é o pano de fundo para se tocar em questões de cunho mais social e político, aspectos cruciais no estudo dos livros, como também simboliza os ritos de passagem em que as crianças assumem o protagonismo na cena. E com intuito de ter uma leitura mais abrangente das obras, foram vistas as relações estabelecidas entre ilustração e texto, o que confere novas inferências ao leitor. O trabalho problematiza e tece críticas às categorizações mais fixas da literatura infantojuvenil, ao perceber que o gênero precisa ser entendido enquanto criação estética. Seja através de experimentações linguísticas, utilização de recursos literários ou pela imagem que dialoga com a escrita e traz uma nova gama de sentidos aos livros, Mia Couto e Luandino Vieira apresentam, com suas obras, perguntas relevantes sobre classificações e faixas etárias na literatura para crianças e jovens, além de oferecer um material literário de alto teor artístico.

The present work deals with children and juvenile literature and questions the strict limitations between literature edited for children and young readers and literature edited for adults, discussing if both kinds of writing belong to separate universes and if both deal with distinct features. The question of age categorizing becomes interesting when related to the textual and imagetic components, working thus in a less Cartesian fashion. As the Corpus of this dissertation, the following works have been selected A chuva pasmada, by the Mozambican writer Mia Couto, and A guerra dos fazedores de chuva com os caçadores de nuvens: guerra para crianças, by the Angolan Luandino Vieira, works edited for children and adolescents. Both authors are known for writing books which have been edited for both groups, and, in this research, many converging points can be seen between the two. In addition, the selected works bring to the forefront some essential aspects of Angolan and Mozambican lusophone literature. To be able to carry out the investigation through the chosen perspective, firstly the concept of children’s literature and its historic specifications were discussed. After a brief contextualization, the modes in which the texts relate to concepts such as tradition and ancestrality were studied, creating bridges between different times and ways of thinking. The element water received special attention in both works, since it is the background when dealing with questions of the political and the social, essential aspects when studying both works, as well as its symbolic function as a rite of passage in which children play the most important role. To make these readings broader, the relations established between illustrations and the text have also been seen, allowing the reader to infer new information. The present work problematizes and criticizes strict categorizations in children and juvenile literature, when it perceives that the genre needs to be understood as an aesthetic construct. This may be achieved through linguistic experimentation, the usage of literary resources, or even through the image in dialogue with the text, expanding the readings of the books. Mia Couto and Luandino Vieira present relevant questions in their work, questions about classifications and age categorizing in children and juvenile literature, as well as offering literary material with high levels of artistic content.
