Title: | Experiência e reconhecimento emocional na psicopatia : estudos exploratórios | Authors: | Almeida, Catarina Alexandra Pereira de | Orientador: | Paixão, Rui Alexandre | Keywords: | Psicopatia; Emoções, reconhecimento | Issue Date: | 2012 | Serial title, monograph or event: | Experiência e reconhecimento emocional na psicopatia :estudos exploratórios | Place of publication or event: | Coimbra | Abstract: | Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal o estudo dos défices de
reconhecimento emocional facial com NimStim Set of Facial Expressions
Ferreira, 2010) e a dominância da experiência emocional positiva e negativa
(afeto negativo- negative affect (NA) e afeto positivo-positive affect (PA)
perfil emocional negativo (NA) elevado.
The current study intends to investigate the deficits in emotional recognition and experience of the general population in individuals with psychopathic traits. The psychopathic traits were measured with the Portuguese version of the Levenson's Self Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP; Coelho, Paixão, & Tomás, 2010), recognizing facial emotions with NimStim Set of Facial Expressions (Tottenham et al. , 2009), prosody recognition levels with the Vocal Emotion Paralinguistic Recognition Test (TRPE, Paixão, Coelho, & Ferreira, 2010) and the dominance of positive and negative emotional experience and experience (negative affect (NA) and positive affect (PA) with Positive Affect , Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS, Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988; Simões, 1993). Results indicate that there is no trace of relationship between psychopathy and emotional recognition (facial and vocal) in the overall sample, in the male subsample there is only one relationship between the total of scores from the facial recognition and secondary psychopathy, and finally in the female subsample there is only a negative relationship between voice recognition of surprise in TRPE, primary psychopathy and psychopathy (total). When it comes to emotional experience, the results go against the expected: secondary psychopathy is negatively related to a dominance of positive emotions in almost all scale items and the total of positive emotions (positive affect - PA), thus indicating a low emotional positive profile and a high emotionally negative profile. In the male subsample some relations were found as regards the primary and secondary psychopathy also against the expected: high NA and low PA. Female subsample suggests that women with primary psychopathy traits are less determined and assertive, and show greater agitation and upset compared with the assumption for these characteristics. Regarding secondary psychopathy data indicates an approach of what is expected in relation to the characteristics pointed out for individuals who have these traits: low PA and high NA but with these variations. |
