Acontecimentos traumáticos: tradução e adaptação da escala Impact of Event Scale – Revised

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como principal objectivo a adaptação da Impact of Event Scale – Revised (IES-R) à população portuguesa. Esta escala resulta da revisão realizada por Weiss e Marmar (1997) da Impact of Event Scale (IES) (Horowitz, Wilner & Alvarez 1979), constituindo-se como uma escala do tipo Lickert com 22 itens distribuídos por três factores (activação fisiológica, intrusão e negação). Estes três factores têm por objectivo avaliar o impacto subjectivo de situações traumáticas na vida de um indivíduo. No estudo aqui reportado, os resultados obtidos, com uma amostra de 185 sujeitos (55 pacientes do Hospital Sobral Cid, 92 estudantes da Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra e 38 sujeitos seleccionados aleatoriamente na cidade do Funchal), evidenciam que a IES-R apresenta uma elevada consistência interna para o total (0,923) assim como para o factor activação fisiológica (0,904), intrusão (0,849), negação (0,812) e um alpha mais fraco para o factor anestesia emocional (0,523). A validade convergente com a versão portuguesa da IJS (Canez, 2007) revela uma relação positiva e estatisticamente significativa. Finalmente, a análise factorial revelou a existência de quatro factores capazes de explicar 61,3 % da variância total: activação fisiológica (8 itens); intrusão (7 itens), negação (5 itens) e anestesia emocional (2 itens). A IES-R revela, assim, uma boa consistência interna e a estrutura factorial é congruente com o modelo teórico subjacente à IES-R (Weiss & Marmar, 1997).

The present study aims at objective on the adaptation of the Impact of Event Scale- Revised (IES-R) to the Portuguese population. This scale arises from the review of Weiss and Marmar (1997) of the Impact of Event Scale (Horowitz, Wilner & Alvarez, 1979), resulting in a Lickert type scale with 22 items distributed into three factors (hyperarousal, intrusion and denial). The main objective of these three factors is to evaluate the subjective impact of traumatic situations during one’s lifetime. In the present study, the obtained results from a total sample of 185 subjects (55 patients from Hospital Sobral Cid, 92 students from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of University of Coimbra, and 38 people selected randomly from the city of Funchal), evidence that IES-R has a high internal consistency for the total of scale (0,923) as for the factors hyperarousal (0,904), intrusion (0,849), denial (0,812) and, a weaker alpha in the factor of numbimg (0,523). A convergent validity analyses with IJS reveals a positive relation and statistically significance. Finally, the factor analysis reveals the existence of four factors, which explains 61, 3% of the total variance: hyperarousal (8 Items); intrusion (7 Items), denial (5 Items) and numbimg (2 Items). The IES-R reveals a good internal consistency and its factorial structure follows closely to the theoretical model subjacent to IES-R (Weiss & Marmar, 1997).
