Burnout em técnicos de ambulância de emergência em contexto pré-hospitalar

Abstract

Esta investigação estudou as diferenças observadas no índice de burnout entre os Técnicos de Ambulância de Emergência (TAE), que já trabalham em contexto pré-hospitalar há algum tempo (grupo um) e os novos TAE (ainda em formação) que se preparam para desempenhar funções idênticas a curto prazo (grupo dois). Para o efeito, houve que tomar também em consideração as divergências manifestadas pelos dois grupos no que toca às estratégias de coping, às situações indutoras de stress, e às influências recíprocas entre os três fenómenos referidos, sobretudo as situações precipitantes de stress, no índice de burnout. Sendo assim, realizaram-se inquéritos destinados a avaliar as situações desencadeadoras de stress (SDS), o índice de burnout (MBI) e as estratégias de coping (F-Copes), em função de três variáveis: a antiguidade no posto/cargo, o estado civil e o género, respectivamente. A amostra foi recolhida na Delegação da Sub-Região Centro do Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica (INEM). Contrariamente ao que se desprende dos estudos originais, os resultados revelaram que a antiguidade no cargo, o estado civil e o género não interferem, de forma estatisticamente significativa, no índice de burnout e que não existe uma correlação entre o total das situações desencadeadoras de stress e o total do MBI. Deve advertir-se, porém, que os resultados obtidos podem dever-se ao tamanho reduzido da amostra (N=32), ou à circunstância de a familiaridade e naturalidade com que os profissionais encaram as situações que se lhes deparam, decorrerem, por enquanto, mais da preparação que recebem, e da selecção a que são sujeitos, do que propriamente de uma experiência empírica, que mesmo em relação aos técnicos mais antigos, não ultrapassa ainda os 5 anos, em virtude do seu carácter recente

The investigation aimed at the study of the prevailing differences, concerning the burnout index, between the Technicians of Emergency Ambulances (TAE) that have been developing their work in prehospital emergency contexts for a while (group one) and the new TAE trainees who are still practicing for the job they are supposed to fully assume in the near future (group two). To do so, it was necessary to investigate the different strategies of coping and the different reactions to stress situations observed in the two groups (as well as the interactions between the three phenomena referred, particularly the influence of stress situations over the burnout index), concerning three main variables: gender, civil state and seniority. The sample was obtained within the delegation of Coimbra of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM). Contrary to the conclusions that have been long drawn from the original surveys about the subject, no statistically relevant interference of the three variables over the burnout index has been observed. One possible explanation could be the fact that the sample was to small (N=32), and the other is related to the relative infancy of the profession - with the basic consequence that no practical experience is yet sufficient to make a difference between the technicians and the trainees. It’s much more obvious what they have in common - the same preparation and selection – than the main factor of differentiation: the experience.
