Abstract: O trabalho tem como objectivo o estudo antropológico de uma aldeia rural, com o pseudónimo de Outeiro, situada a 69 Km de Coimbra e pertencente ao Concelho de Tábua, Província da Beira Alta. No início do trabalho de campo (Abril de 1988), possuia 179 habitantes e 49 fogos. Os principais assuntos abordados são: a) Estrutura Social: grupos sociais. b) Economia: emigração, herança. c) Religiosidade: sagrado e profano, a concepção de mundo camponesa de Deus e do Diabo, festas religiosas (N.S. de Fátima) e laica (carnaval), crenças, superstições e bruxaria). d) Ritos de Passagem ou Ritos e Ciclo de Vida: nascimento, baptismo, casamento e morte. e) Cultura material: alfaias agrícolas tradicionais. A monografia baseia-se em trabalho de campo etnográfico, realizado continuamente ao longo de dois anos (Abril de 1988 a Março de 1990). A metodologia utilizada foi a "observação-participante", além de consultas de arquivos oficiais e registos paroquiais, a fim de estabelecer um elo de ligação entre o presente e o passado etnográfico.
The main purpose of this work was the anthropological study of a rural village named Outeiro (for this study), is situated 69 Km from Coimbra, being part of Tábua's municipality, Beira Alta's province. At the beginning of fieldwork (April 1988) the village detained 179 inhabitants and 49 households. The collection of data was done through a continuous permanence in the study site population for a period of two years (from April 1988 to March 1990). The methodology used was the participant observation, supported by the consultation of official archives and parochial records. The aim was to establish a link between the ethnographic present and past. The principal subjects treated were: a) social structure: social groups. b) economy: emigration, heritage. c) religion: sacred and profane, a peasant worldview of God and Devil, religious (N. S. de Fátima) and secular (carnival) celebrations, beliefs, superstitions and witchcraft. d) passage rites or life cycle's rituals: birth, baptism, marriage and death. e) material culture: traditional agricultural utensils.
