Estratégias de coping e qualidade de vida familiares em adolescentes com diabetes tipo I: um estudo exploratório

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como objectivo avaliar a percepção de stress e coping familiares por pais de crianças e jovens com doença crónica, estabelecendo uma comparação entre estes e alguns pais da população geral, de modo a averiguar a eventual existência de diferenças estatisticamente significativas. O estudo baseia-se numa amostra constituída por 60 sujeitos (30 em cada sub-amostra), sendo que os instrumentos utilizados para a recolha de informação foram o FILE (Inventário Familiar de Acontecimentos e Mudanças de Vida) e o F-COPES (Escalas de Avaliação Pessoal Orientadas para a Crise em Família), auxiliados por um Questionário demográfico. Os resultados mostram que os dois grupos não se diferenciam significativamente na forma como percepcionam o stress e coping familiares. Num segundo momento foi testada a influência de variáveis sócio-demográficas, familiares e relativas à doença na variabilidade dos resultados. Este estudo tem como implicações promover a discussão sobre a doença crónica no seio da família e poderá ser um importante ponto de partida para futuras investigações.

The present study has as objective the evaluation of the perception of family stress and coping by parents of children and young people with chronic illness, establishing a comparison between these parents and some parents of the general population, so that the eventual existence of significant statistical differences can be searched out. The study is based on a sample composed of 60 subjects (30 in each sub-sample). The instruments used for the collection of information were FILE (Family Inventory of Life Events) and F-COPES (Family Crisis Oriented Personal Scales), assisted by a demographic Questionnaire. The results show that the two groups are not significantly different in the way they perceive family stress and coping. In a second phase, the influence of social, demographic and family variables relative to illness on the variability of the results was tested. This study has as implications to promote the discussion about the chronic illness within family and it could be an important starting point for future investigations.
