dc.description.abstract | This work explores opportunities for optimizing a production line. Initially, a comprehensive literature review was carried out, including an analysis of the most recent methodologies applied to the optimization of assembly lines and the identification of gaps. Based on this review, innovative lines of research were identified with regard to permutation blocking flowshop lines with intermediate limited buffers. Three different iterative optimization approaches based on mixed integer programming were developed. These approaches focused on solving complex problems efficiently, applying breakdown strategies to reduce computational complexity. The practical application of these approaches involved collecting and processing real production data. The results showed significant improvements in assembly line efficiency, with remarkable decreases in cycle and flow times, highlighting the suitability of the developed approaches. The case studies were chosen to represent different operational challenges within the critical section of the production line. Each case included variations in the levels of automation and the speed of movement in the intermediate buffers, allowing for a detailed analysis of the optimization strategies in various scenarios. In addition, the analysis revealed a problem with the rotating machine on the assembly line. It was identified that increasing the box capacity of the intermediate buffer that precedes the machine could significantly improve its performance, reducing waiting times and increasing the efficiency not only of this machine, but of the production line as a whole. This work has contributed to the integration of optimization models in an industrial environment and demonstrates that solving real problems by formulating mathematical programming models can lead to substantial productivity gains. | eng |
