MASCULINIDADES, INFÂNCIA E EDUCAÇÃO - UM OLHAR SOBRE A RELAÇÃO ENTRE DESENVOLVIMENTO INFANTIL E A CONSTRUÇÃO SOCIAL DO GÉNERO E DAS MASCULINIDADES

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio, destinado à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ciências da Educação pela Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra, visa apresentar as atividades desenvolvidas no âmbito do estágio concretizado no Observatório Masculinidades.pt, mais concretamente, no Projeto EMINC [Envolvimento Masculino em Iniciativas de Cuidado]. Com o objetivo de relacionar a construção social do género desde a primeira infância com a perpetuação de assimetrias sociais entre os géneros, o presente relatório apresenta uma análise disruptiva centrada no estudo das masculinidades sob uma perspetiva feminista, o qual constitui a génese das tarefas desempenhadas no seio do estágio, particularmente tarefas de investigação e de intervenção educativa com foco nestas temáticas. Numa sociedade em que os papéis e normas rígidas associadas à masculinidade justificam a adoção de comportamentos tendencialmente violentos, de atitudes de risco e, portanto, pobres em autocuidado, e ainda uma menor participação dos homens nas responsabilidades domésticas e de cuidado afastando-os do seu papel enquanto cuidadores (e.g., no exercício da paternidade), impera a necessidade de se apostar nesta vertente dos estudos de género com vista a potenciar o reconhecimento de que a desigualdade de género também lhes é prejudicial. Neste sentido, a educação para a empatia e para o cuidado desde a primeira infância, o envolvimento dos homens na luta pela igualdade de género e a implementação de programas transformadores de normas de género, constituem estratégias que se têm vindo a revelar profícuas na construção de uma sociedade mais justa e equitativa.

This internship report, designed to obtain a Master's degree in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra, aims to present the activities carried out as part of the internship at the Observatory on Masculinities.pt, more specifically in the EMiNC Project [Engaging Men in Nurturing Care Initiative]. Intending to relate the social construction of gender from early childhood to the perpetuation of social asymmetries between genders, this report presents a disruptive analysis centered on the study of masculinities from a feminist perspective, which is the genesis of the tasks carried out during the internship, particularly research and educational intervention tasks focused on these themes. In a society where the rigid norms associated with masculinity justify the adoption of tendentiously violent behavior, risk-taking attitudes, and, therefore, poor self-care, as well as a lower level of participation by men in domestic and care responsibilities, distancing them from their role as caregivers (e.g. in the exercise of paternity), there is an urgent need to focus on this aspect of gender studies to boost the recognition that gender inequality is also harmful to them. In this sense, education for empathy and care from early childhood, the involvement of men in the fight for gender equality, and the implementation of programs that transform gender norms have proven fruitful in building a fairer and more equitable society.
