Title: Memoryscapes of the liberation struggle in Cape Verde
Authors: Cardina, Miguel

Place of publication or event: Abingdon and New York
Abstract: From a diachronic perspective, this chapter explores how distinct memoryscapes of the liberation struggle have been produced in Cape Verde since independence. It will analyse how these memorial landscapes have been created over the past 45 years, their constituent elements and characteristics, the practices used to implement them, and the narratives of the past of the struggle which they present (or silence). We believe that an analysis of the different Cape Verdean memoryscapes is instrumental in critical reflection on the different mobilisations of this past over time, shedding light on the ways in which their legacies are shaping the postcolonial present(s) in the territory.
