Abstract

In the introduction the general sense of this book is characterised, pointing out the relevance of the colonial war and the liberation struggles in the political and social changes that occurred in Portugal and in the former African colonies. The public memory of these events has undergone significant modulations in recent decades, inviting a comparative exercise which seeks to surprise similarities and differences and to identify the place of this past in the identity shaping and political disputes of the present.
