Dança e Interação - Uma proposta sensorial no âmbito performativo e expositivo

Abstract

The (i)materialization of the body in movement, as a premise of this thesis, led to the exploration of dance art in new visual and interactive approaches. Intersecting art and technology, exploring new representations of the body in movement and promoting the approximation of the public, different reflections are proposed throughout this study that result in the concetration and presentation of performance and exhibition projects. New visual representations of the dancing body and the way it relates to its surroundings through mediation and human-computer interaction are presented.The research is divided into three parts and a conclusion. The first part establishes a relationship between the performance art of dance and the visual art of design, this relationship being defined by perception studies, namely the psychology of form. The second part focuses on the exploration of time, as the defining dimension of dance movement and different artistic works presented throughout the 20th century. In the experimental research, we reflect on the dimension of time and how it led to the creation of a performance-installation that crosses the body in different times, through technology and presented as visual grids influenced by design. The third part focuses on the exploration of space as a place that any body inhabits and how the body relates spatially through movement. To explore this concept, subareas of Artificial Intelligence were involved that allowed the creation of two distinct projects, also resulting from the interaction of body movement and its visual representation but through the exploration of the body in space.The study reveals that the intersection between different areas contributes to the development of new perspectives in artistic creation, as well as processes of interaction and involvement of the public with art.

A (i)materialização do corpo em movimento, enquanto premissa da presente tese, conduziu a exploração da arte da dança em novas abordagens visuais e interativas. Intersectando a arte e tecnologia, explorando novas representações do corpo em movimento e promovendo a aproximação do público, propõem-se, ao longo deste estudo, diferentes reflexões que resultam na concepção e apresentação de projetos performativos e expositivos. São apresentadas novas representações visuais sobre o corpo dançante e a forma como este se relaciona com o meio envolvente, através da mediação e interação humano-computador.A investigação divide-se em três partes e uma conclusão. A primeira parte estabelece uma relação entre a arte performativa da dança com a arte visual do design, sendo esta relação definida por estudos da perceção, nomeadamente a psicologia da forma. A segunda parte foca a exploração do tempo, enquanto dimensão que define o movimento da dança e diferentes obras artísticas apresentadas ao longo o século XX. Na investigação experimental, reflete-se a dimensão do tempo e a forma como este conduziu à criação de uma performance-instalação que cruza o corpo em diferentes tempos, através da tecnologia e apresentada sob a forma de grelhas visuais influenciadas pelo design. A terceira parte incide na exploração do espaço, como lugar que qualquer corpo habita e na forma como o corpo se relaciona espacialmente, através do movimento. Para explorar este conceito, envolveram-se sub-áreas da Inteligência Artificial que permitiram a criação de dois projetos distintos, resultantes também da interação do movimento do corpo e a sua representação visual mas através da exploração do corpo no espaço.O estudo realizado revela que a intersecção entre as diferentes áreas contribui para o desenvolvimento de novas perspetivas na criação artística, assim como processos de interação e envolvimento do público com a arte.
