DE QUE FORMA O SUPORTE FAMILIAR INTERFERE NO RESULTADO TERAPÊUTICO: A DOENÇA CRÓNICA NO CONTEXTO DE CUIDADOS CONTINUADOS

Abstract

Introduction: With the rapid ageing of the population, there has been an increase in the prevalence of chronic illness. Faced with the scenario of chronic illness, the family faces difficulties, as the process of adaptation triggers various reactions and risks for both the sick person and the family itself. Support is seen as an integral part of care, and family support in the therapeutic process enables clarification of the situation, provides emotional support, and facilitates the establishment of a partnership between the health professional, the patient and the family, promoting care and therapeutic adherence. Objectives: To understand how family support interferes with therapy and the evolution of the chronic disease, particularly in long-term care. Methodology: Narrative review using the descriptors "family", "chronic disease", "outcome", "therapeutic" and "long-term care" and their respective English descriptors in the PubMed, SciELO and Medline databases. The inclusion criteria included all articles that specifically addressed the topic, with a date range between 2006 and 2022. Exclusion criteria were articles that were not available in their entirety, that did not address the topic sought, that were not written in Portuguese or English, and that had been published before the established dates. Results: About 80 articles that met the criteria were collected, 28 of which were selected and included in the review. Conclusion: Family members are the most supportive of the chronically ill, being the greatest source of emotional support. Chronic illness affects all aspects of family life, in which family patterns are changed forever and family roles and tasks are altered.

Introdução: Com o rápido envelhecimento da população, verifica-se um aumento da prevalência da doença crónica. Perante o cenário de doença crónica, a família enfrenta dificuldades, pois o processo de adaptação despoleta diversas reações e risco tanto para a pessoa doente, como a própria família. O apoio é tido como parte integrante nos cuidados, e o suporte familiar no processo terapêutico permite a clarificação da situação, fornece suporte emocional, e facilita o estabelecimento de uma relação de parceria entre o profissional de saúde, o doente e a família promovendo o cuidado e a adesão terapêutica. Objetivos: Perceber de que forma o suporte familiar interfere na terapêutica e na evolução do doente crónico particularmente em Cuidados Continuados. Metodologia: Revisão narrativa no qual foi utilizado descritores, “família”, “doença crónica”, “resultado”, “terapêutico” e “cuidados continuados” e respetivos descritores em inglês, nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO e Medline. Como critérios de inclusão, engloba todos os artigos que interpelam concretamente o tema, com um intervalo de datas entre o ano de 2006 a 2022. De exclusão, os artigos que não estavam disponíveis na íntegra, que não abordavam o tema procurado, não escritos em português ou inglês, e que foram publicados anteriormente às datas estabelecidas. Resultados: Foram recolhidos cerca de 80 artigos que cumpriam os critérios, sendo 28 selecionados e incluídos na revisão. Conclusão: Os familiares são os que mais apoiam os doentes crónicos, sendo a maior fonte de apoio emocional e suporte. A doença crónica afeta todos os aspetos da vida familiar, no qual os padrões familiares são modificados para sempre e os papéis e tarefas familiares são alterados.
