The A. reflects on the specific contribution by the Jesuits in te construction of 'european identity'. In fact, their own education and their ad gentes mission follow the Hellenic, Roman and Judeo-Christian paradigms, thich is why many jesuitas are among the great humanists, pedagogues, poets, rhetoricians, mathematicians, scientists, astronomers and architects. However, what made these humanist scholar truly Europe's masters was the unprecedent expansion of their transntional school system. While in 1570 the Society of Jesus had 180 schools across Europe, in 1710 that number rose to 517, from Portugal to Russia. The binding elements of this network of schools was the Latin language and a systematic curriculum regulated by the Ratio Studiorum, a founding document, responsible for the reappraisal of the hierarchu of studies in Europe.pt
