Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 3 é um conceito relativamente novo que propõe uma conexão entre a Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2 e a doença de Alzheimer. Estudos recentes sugerem que ambas as doenças partilham mecanismos patológicos, o que indica que a Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2 pode ser um fator de risco para a doença de Alzheimer e vice-versa. Alguns dos mecanismos patológicos partilhados por estas doenças incluem resistência à insulina, hiperglicemia crónica, inflamação, stress oxidativo e acumulação de placas β amiloides no cérebro. O fator chave que contribui para o desenvolvimento da doença de Alzheimer em doentes com Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2 é a insulinorresistência, que leva à desregulação da via de sinalização da insulina. Os fatores de risco tais como idade, estilo de vida sedentário, predisposição genética e obesidade também são comuns ambas as doenças. Emerging evidence suggests shared pathological mechanisms between these two diseases, indicating that Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus may act as a potential risk factor for the development of Alzheimer's disease, and vice versa. Some of the shared pathological mechanisms between Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Alzheimer's Disease include insulin resistance, chronic hyperglycemia, inflammation, oxidative stress, and the accumulation of amyloid beta plaques in the brain. The key factor that contributes to the development of Alzheimer's Disease in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is insulin resistance, that leads to the dysregulation of insulin signaling.
