Relatórios de Estágio e Monografia Intitulada "O impacto dos antibióticos na microbiota intestinal e a relação com a depressão".

Abstract

The present document is the result of the theoretical and practical work developed within the context of the curricular unit "Internship", integrated in the 2nd semester of the 5th year, in the study plan of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF, from the Portuguese Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas) of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC, from the Portuguese Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra). The presentation, public discussion and approval of this work are required conditions for the completion of the course and consequent obtention of the Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.The document consists of three parts. In the first and second parts are presented, respectively, the Community Pharmacy Internship Report and the Pharmaceutical Industry Internship Report. After a brief contextualization of the places where the internships took place, both reports take the form of a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and a critical appreciation of the internships is made. Additionally, in the Community Pharmacy Internship Report, a description of five practical cases that occurred during the internship and that I considered relevant to integrate into this work is presented. Lastly, the third part of the work corresponds to the Monograph, entitled “The effect of antibiotics on the gut microbiota and its relationship with depression”. In the monograph, it is attempted to understand how antibiotics impact the gut microbiota and the possible relationship to depression.Mental health is one of the main public health challenges in Europe. In Portugal, there is an increasing incidence of mental illnesses, namely depression. On the other hand, another of the current concerns is the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. As part of my internship in community pharmacy, I was able to see the large consumption of antidepressants and antibiotics, considering them to be relevant themes to be addressed in my monograph. The community pharmacist can and should play an active role in the management of the mental health of the population and in the rational use of antibiotics because he is integrated into a health care structure capable of providing regular and close care, which allows a high level of confidence between the user and the pharmacist, facilitating the intervention of the latter. More specifically, the pharmacist must act to ensure access to quality, effective and safe treatment, as well as educate and support the patient in order to increase adherence to therapy, monitor the effectiveness of treatment and identify possible adverse effects.

O presente documento é o resultado do trabalho teórico e prático desenvolvido no âmbito da unidade curricular “Estágio”, integrada no 2º semestre do 5º ano, no plano de estudos do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas (MICF) da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra (FFUC). A apresentação, discussão pública e aprovação deste trabalho são condições necessárias para a conclusão do curso e consequente obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ciências Farmacêuticas.O documento é constituído por três partes. Na primeira e segunda parte são apresentados, respetivamente, o Relatório de Estágio em Farmácia Comunitária e o Relatório de Estágio em Indústria Farmacêutica. Após uma breve contextualização sobre os locais de estágio, ambos os relatórios tomam a forma de uma análise SWOT (do inglês, Strengths (Forças), Weaknesses (Fraquezas), Opportunities (Oportunidades), Threats (Ameaças)), sendo feita uma apreciação crítica dos estágios. Adicionalmente, no Relatório de Estágio em Farmácia Comunitária é feita uma descrição de cinco casos práticos que ocorreram durante o estágio e que considerei relevante integrar neste trabalho. Por último, a terceira parte diz respeito à Monografia, intitulada “The effect of antibiotics on the gut microbiota and its relationship with depression”, pretendendo-se perceber de que forma é que os antibióticos impactam a microbiota intestinal e a possível relação com a depressão.A saúde mental constitui um dos principais desafios de saúde pública na Europa. Em Portugal, verifica-se uma incidência crescente das doenças mentais, nomeadamente depressão. Por outro lado, outra das preocupações da atualidade é o uso indiscriminado de antibióticos. No âmbito do meu estágio em farmácia comunitária, pude constatar o grande consumo de medicamentos antidepressivos e antibióticos, considerando serem temáticas pertinentes para abordar na minha monografia. O farmacêutico comunitário pode e deve ter um papel ativo na gestão da saúde mental da população e no uso racional de antibióticos, pois encontra-se numa estrutura de saúde capaz de prestar cuidados regulares e de proximidade, o que permite gerar um alto nível de confiança entre o utente e o farmacêutico, facilitando a intervenção deste último. Mais concretamente, o farmacêutico deve atuar no sentido de garantir o acesso a um tratamento com qualidade, eficácia e segurança, bem como educar e prestar apoio ao doente, de forma a aumentar a adesão à terapêutica, acompanhar a eficácia do tratamento e identificar possíveis efeitos adversos.
