Ciência Cidadã em bibliotecas públicas: Perceção dos profissionais da informação e dos participantes no projeto aBEIRAr

Abstract

Citizen Science is an approach to scientific work and part of the Open Science movement. It refers to the participation of individuals in scientific research activities, where they actively contribute to science through their intellectual effort, their knowledge or with their tools and resources.This study aims to analyze the impact on the community and on the libraries of the Intermunicipal Network of Libraries of Beiras and Serra da Estrela (RIBBSE) of the Partnership Project of Citizen Science for the Territorial Enhancement - aBEIRAr.The specific objectives are to identify the intermunicipal networks of Portuguese libraries; to characterize the aBEIRAr project; to understand the role of the Citizen Science project in RIBBSE libraries; to evaluate the impact of the aBEIRAr project on the community - citizens and information professionals.The methodology adopted included the literature review to establish the theoretical and conceptual framework. The case study was conducted using mixed methods, through descriptive research, surveys and interviews.Of the results obtained, the following stand out: The libraries from RIBBSE are the driving forces of the aBEIRAr project, choosing the themes, organizing and promoting the activities in the respective local communities, establishing several partnerships with the mediation of the scientific coordination of the project; the degree of satisfaction of the participants in the Citizen Science activities and of the information professionals from RIBBSE who promote them is very positive, 76.9% and 73.3% respectively; Most of the participants in the activities are between 51 and 70 years old (65.6%), which corresponds with the socio-demographic profile of the territory of Beiras and Serra da Estrela; the services provided by the libraries that have the greatest impact after the completion of the aBEIRAr activities are the increase in the number of participants in other activities promoted by the libraries, with a rate of 66.7%, followed by the increased interaction with the libraries in the social networks with 53.3%.It is concluded that Citizen Science can bring to public libraries and their target audience more knowledge about cultural heritage, scientific knowledge in the community, positive attitudes towards science and new knowledge about the local environment.

A Ciência Cidadã é uma abordagem ao trabalho científico e parte do movimento da Ciência Aberta. Refere-se à participação dos indivíduos em atividades de investigação científica, em que aqueles contribuem ativamente para a ciência, mediante o seu esforço intelectual, os seus conhecimentos ou com as suas ferramentas e recursos.Este estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar o impacto na comunidade e nas bibliotecas da Rede Intermunicipal de Bibliotecas das Beiras e Serra da Estrela (RIBBSE) do Projeto de Parceria de Ciência Cidadã para a Valorização do Território – aBEIRAr.Como objetivos específicos pretende-se identificar as redes intermunicipais de bibliotecas portuguesas; caraterizar o projeto aBEIRAr; compreender o papel do projeto de Ciência Cidadã nas bibliotecas da RIBBSE; avaliar o impacto do projeto aBEIRAr na comunidade - cidadãos e profissionais da informação.A metodologia adotada compreendeu a revisão de literatura para a concretização do enquadramento teórico e concetual. O estudo de caso concretizou-se com métodos mistos, mediante pesquisa descritiva, inquéritos por questionário e entrevista.Dos resultados obtidos destaca-se: as bibliotecas da RIBBSE são as forças motrizes do projeto aBEIRAr, escolhem os temas, organizam e dinamizam as atividades nas respetivas comunidades locais, estabelecem parcerias diversas com a mediação da coordenação científica do projeto; o grau de satisfação dos participantes nas atividades de Ciência Cidadã e dos profissionais da informação da RIBBSE que as dinamizam é muito positivo, 76,9% e 73,3% respetivamente; a maioria dos participantes nas atividades situa-se na faixa etária entre os 51 e os 70 anos (65,6%), o que corresponde com o perfil sociodemográfico do território das Beiras e Serra da Estrela; os serviços disponibilizados pelas bibliotecas que apresentam maior impacto após a realização das atividades aBEIRAr são o aumento do número de participantes noutras atividades dinamizadas pelas bibliotecas, com uma taxa de 66,7%, seguindo-se o aumentou da interação com as bibliotecas nas redes sociais com 53,3%.Conclui-se que a Ciência Cidadã pode trazer às bibliotecas públicas e ao seu público-alvo mais conhecimento sobre a herança cultural, conhecimento científico na comunidade, atitudes positivas em relação à ciência e novos conhecimentos sobre o ambiente local.
