Impactos e Tendências na Organização e Gestão de Eventos na Região Centro de Portugal – Uma Análise Comparativa entre uma Cidade do Litoral e uma do Interior

Abstract

Although not always recognized in that way, events have had an undoubted presence in the society since the earliest times. They have emerged as a mean to promote the socialization and fun among people, while making them escape their routine. Throughout the years, with the evolution of the society, the scenario associated with events also experienced an evolution. With the growth and development of new technologies and the emergence of the “new tourist”, the organization and management of events has become more complex, but also more comprehensive, close, inclusive and accessible.Thus, like tourism, marked by its constant development and impact on society, events also entailed a vast offer to which were added, day by day, new concepts and initiatives that sought to bring greater recognition and competitiveness to a destination. In this way, it is understood that talking about events without talking about tourism is a very difficult dissociation to make, since organizing an event in a destination highlights its capacity to attract tourists on a national and international level.As far as Portugal is concerned, the growth in the organization and management of events has also been notable, as not only there has been a significant increase in the number of companies linked to the sector, but also in the number of spectators at live shows. The Central region, in turn, has contributed notably to these numbers, as it stands out as the second region where the most live shows are organized. This can be justified by the potential and authenticity of the resources and heritage existing on the coast and in the interior of the Central region which, together, can create unique experiences.It was in this sense that two cities were selected – Figueira da Foz (belonging to the coast of the country) and Tomar (belonging to the interior of the country) –, which presented notoriously distinct characteristics and granted each city its own activity and dynamics. The objective was to analyze the perception and degree of satisfaction of the residents and visitors regarding the events, as well as the influence these have on the destinations where they are organized, in order to be possible to understand what the future trends will be in the area of the organization and event management.

Os eventos, ainda que nem sempre reconhecidos dessa maneira, têm tido uma presença indubitável na sociedade desde os tempos mais primórdios, já que surgiam como um meio para promover a socialização e diversão entre as pessoas, fazendo-as escapar à sua rotina. A passagem dos anos, no entanto, significou um desenvolvimento da sociedade, o que levou a que o panorama associado aos eventos sofresse, igualmente, uma evolução. Com o crescimento e desenvolvimento das novas tecnologias e o surgimento do “novo turista”, a organização e gestão de eventos tornou-se mais complexa, mas também mais abrangente, próxima, inclusiva e acessível.Assim, à semelhança do turismo, demarcado pelo seu constante desenvolvimento e impacto na sociedade, também os eventos acarretaram uma vasta oferta à qual se somaram, de dia para dia, novos conceitos e iniciativas que procuraram trazer a um destino um maior reconhecimento e competitividade. Desta maneira, entende-se que falar em eventos sem falar em turismo é uma dissociação muito difícil de se fazer, já que a realização de um evento num destino faz sobressair a sua capacidade de atração turística a nível nacional e internacional.No que a Portugal diz respeito, também o crescimento da organização e gestão de eventos tem sido notório, uma vez que não só se tem notado um aumento expressivo no número de empresas ligadas ao setor, como também no número de espetadores de espetáculos ao vivo. A região Centro, por sua vez, tem contribuído de forma notável para esses números, já que se destaca como a segunda região onde mais espetáculos ao vivo são dinamizados. Tal pode ser justificado pelo potencial e autenticidade dos recursos e património existente no litoral e no interior da região Centro que, em conjunto, podem originar experiências únicas.Foi nesse sentido que foram selecionadas duas cidades – a Figueira da Foz (pertencente ao litoral do país) e Tomar (pertencente ao interior do país) –, com características notoriamente distintas e capazes de conferir a cada cidade uma atividade e dinâmica muito própria. O objetivo passou por analisar a perceção e grau de satisfação dos residentes e dos visitantes perante os eventos, bem como a influência que estes têm nos destinos onde são organizados para, deste modo, ser possível perceber quais serão as tendências futuras da área da organização e gestão de eventos.
