Turismo Industrial de São João da Madeira: Motivações e Resultados da Experiência de visita

Abstract

São João da Madeira localiza-se no Norte de Portugal, numa posição favorecida pela sua proximidade ao Porto e Aveiro. Rica em legado industrial, esta cidade apresenta características singulares capazes de destacar a região pelas experiências únicas que propõe proporcionar ao visitante. Para isso, a janeiro de 2012, surgiu o projeto “Circuitos pelo Património Industrial” (CPI) de São João da Madeira, uma iniciativa que vem organizar a oferta turística e auxiliar o visitante a conhecer o legado vivo das indústrias locais. Juntamente com os CPI, foi inaugurado o Welcome Center, um centro de acolhimento e de receção ao turista que procura ser o elo que liga os visitantes da cidade aos parceiros desta iniciativa, através da gestão, organização e programação das visitas e trabalhando para promover, dinamizar e divulgar a imagem de São João da Madeira como um destino turístico inovador e empreendedor. Num primeiro capítulo irei me focar em contextualizar o conceito de turismo industrial com uma breve revisão bibliográfica dos temas abordados neste estudo, seguido por um capítulo direcionado as características e história da cidade e do projeto anteriormente mencionado. Posteriormente irei me focar nas atividades realizadas durante o meu estágio curricular no Welcome Center, concluindo com os capítulos que se focam no estudo realizado durante o estágio. O estudo em questão teve como foco responder a questões relacionadas com a motivação do visitante e os resultados da sua experiência de visita, refletindo sobre os preconceitos existentes para com o turismo industrial e destacando as formas como o projeto dos Circuitos pelo Património Industrial aproxima os visitantes do património industrial.

São João da Madeira is located in the north region of Portugal, in a position favoured by its proximity to Porto and Aveiro. Rich in industrial legacy, this city has unique characteristics capable of highlighting the region for the unique experiences it proposes to provide to the visitor. For that purpose, in January 2012, the project “Circuits for Industrial Heritage” (CPI) in São João da Madeira was created, an initiative that organizes the tourist offer and helps visitors to discover the living legacy of local industries.Together with the CPI, the Welcome Center was inaugurated, a welcoming and reception centre for tourists, who seek to be the link that connects visitors of the city with the partners of this initiative, through the management, organization and programming of visits and working to promote, boost and publicize the image of São João da Madeira as an innovative and enterprising tourist destination.In the first chapter, I will focus on contextualizing the concept of industrial tourism with a brief bibliographic review of the topics addressed in this study, followed by a chapter focused on the characteristics and history of the city and the aforementioned project. Later, I will focus on the activities carried out during my curricular internship at the Welcome Center, concluding with the chapter that focuses on the study carried out during the internship.The study in question focused on answering questions related to visitor motivation and the results of their visiting experience, reflecting on existing prejudices towards industrial tourism and highlighting the ways in which the Circuits for Industrial Heritage project brings visitors together of industrial heritage.
