Mar e Cidade: Um pontão marítimo como alternativa para a revitalização da cidade balnear da Figueira da Foz

Abstract

Esta dissertação surge integrada no tema de Atelier de Projeto cujo mote é “O Mar e a Cidade”. Na sua generalidade, o tema aliciou-me pelo contexto costeiro e pela constante relação ao mar que o estudo propunha. O objetivo base compreende-se pela revitalização da Cidade da Figueira da Foz. Uma cidade que outrora se situava entre os destinos prediletos tanto para habitar como para fazer turismo balnear. Essa cidade tem vindo a degradar-se de certa forma por ser conformista face à estagnação perante a passagem do tempo. A análise parte daqui. Da tentativa de perceber porque é que a Figueira já não é mais atrativa. Dentro do tema centrei a minha atenção numa área mais especifica que compreende basicamente a larga praia que vai do Sul de Buarcos até à Foz do Rio Mondego e a respetiva cidade adjacente. A análise parte do mar chegando à cidade passando pelassuas relações implicadas numa cidade balnear. Sempre pensando em todas as partes como um todo, que serve cidadãos e turistas. O objetivo é então identificar problemas sugerindo intenções. Passando pela arquitetura propriamente dita quando se fala do desenho de cidade e os seus espaços, mas também passando por outros temas como o caso das redes de infraestruturas que por sua vez alteram a vivência da cidade. É de referir que um dos grandes problemas que distancia a Figueira da Foz de ser uma cidade Balnear é a extensão do areal da sua principal praia. A sua dimensão afasta o mar da cidade, fraturando as suas relações. Este areal extenso surgiu na sequência de tentar resolver o problema da entrada de embarcações do mar para o rio Mondego. No entanto, além de distanciar a cidade e o mar causou um problema grave de proteção costeira na zona ao Sul do rio. Como resposta, a associação SOS Cabedelo sugeriu a instalação de um bypass de areias que tem o objetivo de transladar os sedimentos transportados pelo mar de Norte para Sul. É facto que este equipamento tem uma grande dimensão e a sugestão do Atelier de Projeto é aliar essa máquina à arquitetura criando um equipamento capaz de potencializar a cidade tornando-a mais atrativa e gentil para habitantes e turistas.

This dissertation is part of the Design Studio topic "The Sea and the City." In general, the theme appealed to me due to its coastal context and the constant relationship with the sea that the study proposed. The main objective is the revitalization of Figueira da Foz City. It used to be a favored destination for both residents and beach tourism. However, the city has been deteriorating to some extent due to its conformity and stagnation over time. The analysis starts from here, attempting to understand why Figueira is no longer attractive.Within the theme, I focused my attention on a specific area, which mainly comprises the wide beach stretching from the south of Buarcos to the mouth of the Mondego River and the adjacent city. The analysis starts from the sea, reaching the city, and exploring their interrelationships within a beach town. Always considering all the parts as a whole, serving both citizens and tourists, the objective is to identify problems and suggest intentions. This involves not only the architecture itself, concerning city design and its spaces but also other topics such as infrastructure networks that alter the city's experience.It is worth mentioning that one of the main issues that sets Figueira da Foz apart from being a beach city is the vast extension of its main beach. Its size distances the sea from the city, breaking their connections. This extensive sandy area emerged as an attempt to solve the problem of vessel access from the sea to the Mondego River. However, apart from separating the city from the sea, it caused a significant coastal protection problem in the southern area of the river. In response, the SOS Cabedelo association suggested the installation of a sand bypass system, which aims to transfer sediments carried by the sea from north to south. It is a fact that this equipment has a large scale, and the Design Studio's suggestion is to combine this machine with architecture, creating a product capable of enhancing the city and making it more attractive and welcoming to residents and tourists
