A INFLUÊNCIA DA INTELIGÊNCIA ARTIFICIAL NOS PROCESSOS DE TOMADA DE DECISÃO

Abstract

A elaboração deste relatório foi realizada na sequência do estágio curricular pretendido para a obtenção do grau de mestre em Gestão, pela Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra. O estágio apresentou uma duração de 700 horas, sendo inserido no Departamento de Anti-fraude e Regularizações da SIBS Forward Payments Solutions (SIBS FPS), com o propósito de renovar a marca SIBS PAYWATCH, que se dedica à prevenção e deteção de fraude e à regularização de casos de fraude e exceções nos pagamentos ou levantamentos. No contexto atual, assiste-se ao aumento do investimento em Inteligência Artificial (IA), tal como ao crescimento das preocupações que decorrem da sua proliferação. Caracterizada pela abrangência de diversas áreas, esta inovação tecnológica e respetivas derivações, como o Machine Learning (ML), é responsável pela adoção de novas abordagens na análise de dados e processos de tomada de decisão, nomeadamente na atuação da entidade de acolhimento. Desta forma, neste relatório são objeto de análise as vantagens e desvantagens que se levantam quanto à IA e aos processos de tomada de decisão, considerando benefícios e limitações perante a inteligência humana. A discussão em curso sobre a IA transpõe-se igualmente na necessidade de explicitar as implicações éticas e legais que podem ocorrer da sua utilização.Adicionalmente, para proceder a uma análise completa e considerar a atividade do departamento em que foi desempenhado o estágio, é exposta também a particularidade dos aspetos favoráveis e desfavoráveis da IA nos processos de tomada de decisão ao nível da prevenção e deteção de fraude. Interligando, de uma perspetiva crítica, a revisão de literatura apresentada sobre estes parâmetros com as tarefas desenvolvidas e a caracterização da entidade de acolhimento, conclui-se que a IA é uma mais-valia para o desempenho de uma organização, ainda que seja necessário ter em atenção os riscos, a interface com a decisão humana e as alterações a ocorrer atualmente à legislação.

This report was written in the sequence of the curricular internship required to obtain a master’s degree in management from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. The internship lasted 700 hours and was carried out in the Anti-fraud and Regularization Department of SIBS Forward Payments Solutions (SIBS FPS), with the purpose of renewing the SIBS PAYWATCH brand, which is dedicated to the prevention and detection of fraud and the regularization of cases of fraud and exceptions in payments or withdrawals.In the current context, we are witnessing an increase in investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as the growth of concerns arising from its proliferation. Characterized by the coverage of several areas, this technological innovation, and its derivations, such as Machine Learning (ML), is responsible for the adoption of new approaches in data analysis and decision-making processes, particularly in the performance of the host entity. Thus, this report analyses the advantages and disadvantages of AI and decision-making processes, considering its benefits and limitations when compared to human intelligence.The ongoing discussion on AI also involves the need to explain the ethical and legal implications that may arise from its use. In addition, to proceed to a complete analysis and to consider the activity of the department where the internship was carried out, the particularity of the favourable and unfavourable aspects of AI in the decision-making processes at the level of fraud prevention and detection is also exposed.By critically interconnecting the literature review presented on these parameters with the tasks developed and the characterization of the host entity, it is concluded that AI is an asset for the performance of an organization, although it is necessary to take into account the risks, the interface with human decision and the current changes in legislation.
