Expectativas das reclusas face à liberdade? As representações das reclusas da prisão de tires relativamente às suas expectativas de reinserção social

Abstract

O objetivo da presente dissertação de mestrado consiste em compreender as expectativas das reclusas relativamente ao seu regresso/reintegração na sociedade, nomeadamente em relação à sua inserção no mercado de trabalho e (re)integração nas redes familiares. Para concretizar esse objetivo e aumentar o conhecimento sociológico sobre a reclusão feminina, foi realizada uma investigação qualitativa no Estabelecimento Prisional de Tires, onde foram efetuadas entrevistas a reclusas e técnicas de reinserção social. Na primeira parte da dissertação (referencial teórico-conceitual), é feito um enquadramento da vida na prisão e discute-se a relação entre género e estabelecimento prisional. Na segundaparte, discutem-se os resultados da investigação desenvolvida acerca das reclusas da Prisão de Tires, caracterizando as suas redes sociais antes e durante a reclusão, identificam-se as expectativas que elas próprias têm sobre a sua reinserção social, descreve-se o tipo de crime e a duração da pena, relacionam-se estes tópicos com as perspetivas que as reclusas têm sobre a reinserção e descrevem-se as suas características sociodemográficas, confrontando as com as suas expectativas. Esta dissertação pretende, assim, contribuir para um maior conhecimento sociológico sobre a reclusão feminina, partindo das experiências e expectativas das mulheres reclusas. Ouvir e analisar as histórias destas mulheres ajuda a uma melhor compreensão das dinâmicas associadas. O testemunho dado em todas as entrevistas é fulcral para uma adoção de medidas mais inclusivas e efetivas na reintegração social.

This dissertation aims to understand what expectations female convicts have of their return to society, namely regarding their integration into the job market and their (re)integration in family networks. In order to understand these matters and further the existing sociological knowledge about female convicts. A qualitative research was conducted in the Prison of Tires, by interviewing convicts and probation officers. The first part of this dissertation (theoretical and conceptual framework) focuses on understanding life in prison and discussing the relationship between gender and correctional institutions. The second part moves on to discussing the results of the research carried out in the Prison of Tires. For this purpose, the convicts’ social networks before and during incarceration are laid out, their expectations about their own social reintegration are identified, the type of crime and length of sentence are described, relating them to the convicts’ perspectives on their own reintegration, and their expectations are put into context with their socio-demographic characteristics.Thus this dissertation wishes to contribute to furthering the sociological knowledge about female incarceration, focusing for that purpose on the perspective of the female convicts themselves. Listening to and analyzing these women’s stories helps us to better understand the dynamics involved in this matter. The testimony given in each of these interviews is central to adopting more inclusive and effective measures in social re-integration.
