A Vida e a Morte das comunidades laicas e eclesiásticas da paróquia medieval de São Bartolomeu de Coimbra: uma abordagem a partir do Timelink

Abstract

The present dissertation aims to analyze a set of aspects that integrated and composed thecollegiate church and the parish of S. Bartolomeu of Coimbra, between the 12th and 15thcenturies. Given the importance of corresponding to the computerization of the contemporaryworld, we seek to develop this historical study based on a methodology, essentially computer-based, that reflects this adaptation and technological integration. Firstly, we unravel thedocumental sources that supported this dissertation and, then, the methodology, which is basedon the Timelink information system. Subsequently, we present the contextualization of thechurch and parish of S. Bartolomeu in the Middle Ages, briefly covering institutional andarchitectural aspects. We also address the real estate of the collegiate church of S. Bartolomeu,evoking its composition and location in the urban context. In the third and fourth parts of thestudy, we consider the three communities that S. Bartolomeu welcomed: an ecclesiasticalcommunity, a lay community and, finally, a community of people who were celebrated in thisparish. Based on the three identified communities, we develop an analysis which aims to reveal,firstly, the family communities residing in the parish of S. Bartolomeu, taking into account therelations of blood, marriage and service detected, and, secondly, the socio-professionalcommunities that the parishioners occupied. Finally, considering the set of people who werecelebrated and recorded in the Obituary of S. Bartolomeu, we analyze the conjuncture of deathin this institution between the 12th century and the 15th century, highlighting the link betweenlife and death through material donations. At last, we hope to achieve a revealing picture ofsocial, economic, cultural and urban aspects and tendencies that constituted the medieval settingof S. Bartolomeu.

A presente dissertação pretende analisar um conjunto de aspetos que integravam ecompunham a igreja colegiada e a paróquia de S. Bartolomeu de Coimbra, entre os séculos XIIe XV. Dada a importância de corresponder à informatização do mundo contemporâneo,procuramos desenvolver o presente estudo histórico alicerçados numa metodologia,essencialmente informática, que reflete essa adaptação e integração tecnológica. Em primeirolugar, deslindamos as fontes documentais que sustentaram esta dissertação e, de seguida, areferida metodologia, que tem por base o sistema de informação Timelink. Posteriormente,apresentamos a contextualização da igreja e paróquia de S. Bartolomeu na Idade Média,percorrendo brevemente aspetos institucionais e arquitetónicos. Abordamos, ainda, opatrimónio imobiliário da colegiada de S. Bartolomeu, evocando a sua composição elocalização no contexto urbano. Na terceira e quarta parte do estudo, consideramos as trêscomunidades que S. Bartolomeu acolhia: uma comunidade eclesiástica, uma comunidade laicae, por fim, uma comunidade de pessoas que se faziam celebrar nesta paróquia. Assente nas trêscomunidades identificadas, desenvolvemos uma análise que visa revelar, primeiro, ascomunidades familiares residentes na paróquia de S. Bartolomeu, atendendo às relações desangue, matrimónio e de serviço detetadas, e, em segundo, as comunidades socioprofissionaisque os paroquianos ocupavam. Finalmente, considerando o conjunto de pessoas que se faziamcelebrar e registar no Obituário de S. Bartolomeu, analisamos a conjuntura da morte nestainstituição entre o século XII e o século XV, evidenciando o elo de ligação entre a vida e amorte, por via de doações materiais. Por fim, esperamos alcançar um quadro revelador deaspetos e tendências de índole social, económico, cultural e urbano que constituíam o cenáriomedieval de S. Bartolomeu.
