dc.description.abstract | Executive functions - also known as executive control or cognitive control (Diamond, 2013) - can be described as a fusion of metacognitive processes that allow the identification of environmental stimuli, adaptive response and flexibility in alternating strategies to solve problems, through permanent monitoring mechanisms, anticipation of future goals, analysis of consequences and integrated response to the context (Baron, 2004). Given the decisive role that executive functions play in physical and mental health, in cognitive, social and psychological development, in school success and in everyday life in general (Diamond, 2013; Doebel, 2020; Ganesan & Steinbeis, 2022), it is notorious the growing commitment to research and analysis of executive functions (Hamdan & Pereira, 2009) and, consequently, the importance of its assessment - which should be supported by instruments with psychometric robustness and duly measured for the population in which they will be used. Thus, this study aimed to test the concurrent validity of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function - Second Edition (BRIEF-2) (Gioia et al., 2015) with the Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory (CHEXI) (Thorell & Nyberg, 2008) and with the Teenage Executive Functioning Inventory (TEXI) (Thorell et al., 2020), in a sample of Portuguese children and young people. For this purpose, correlational analyzes were carried out between the BRIEF-2 scales and indices, in their different versions, with the CHEXI and TEXI scales using Pearson's correlation coefficients. The results obtained reveal that the correlations found between the BRIEF-2 with the CHEXI and TEXI, as a measure of executive functioning, were moderate to high. | eng |
