Estágio na Unidade Funcional de Patologia Forense do Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses, I.P. – Delegação do Sul

Abstract

Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences is the science that brings together medical knowledge and methodologies for application in Justice for individuals and society. Its practice is based on the physician's knowledge and personal conviction, in accordance with legis artis.Within the scope of the Master's Degree in Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, the master's student opted for a curricular internship in her area of greatest interest, Forensic Pathology. For this reason, the internship took place at the Forensic Pathology Functional Unit of the Southern Delegation of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, I.P (INMLCF, I.P), between October 2021 and March 2022.The general objective of the curricular internship was to observe and participate in medical-legal examinations and expertise within the scope of Forensic Pathology, in order to deepen and apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the first curricular year. The master's student, during the six months of the internship, had the opportunity to participate in multiple medico-legal examinations, helping in the evaluation of signs related to identification, cadaveric phenomena, the identification of traumatic injuries, as well as in the evaluation of the relationship between the organs, pathological changes, among others.Throughout this internship report, the Master's student covers several topics, among them, the types of death, causes and medico-legal etiologies. At the end, it presents the demographic analysis of the cases in which it participated during the internship period at the INMLCF, I.P.

A Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses é a ciência que reúne os conhecimentos e metodologias médicas para fins de aplicação na Justiça para os indivíduos e a sociedade. A sua prática é baseada nos conhecimentos e convicção pessoal do médico, de acordo com a legis artis.No âmbito do Mestrado em Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra, a mestranda optou pela realização do estágio curricular na sua área de maior interesse, a Patologia Forense. Por esse motivo, o estágio decorreu na Unidade Funcional de Patologia Forense da Delegação do Sul do Instituto de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses, I.P (INMLCF, I.P), entre os meses de outubro de 2021 e de março de 2022. O estágio curricular teve como objetivo geral a observação e participação nos exames e perícias médico-legais no âmbito da Patologia Forense, de modo a aprofundar e aplicar os conhecimentos teóricos adquiridos no primeiro ano curricular. A mestranda, ao longo dos seis meses de estágio, teve a oportunidade de participar em múltiplas perícias médico-legais, auxiliando na avaliação dos sinais relativos à identificação, dos fenómenos cadavéricos, à identificação das lesões traumáticas, bem como na avaliação da relação entre os órgãos, das alterações patológicas, entre outras. Ao longo do presente relatório de estágio, a mestranda abrange vários temas, entre eles, os tipos de morte, causas e etiologias médico-legais. No final, apresenta a análise demográfica dos casos em que participou ao longo do período de estágio no INMLCF, I.P.
