Identidade, Intemporalidade e Efemeridade Projeto de reabilitação e revitalização do Mosteiro de Santa Cruz e área envolvente

Abstract

A investigação desenvolve-se num gesto de reflexão perante a vulnerabilidade das cidades contemporâneas, onde os diálogos entre a preexistência e o contemporâneo estabelecem as diretrizes do projeto. A baixa, é um momento singular que reúne um património histórico e cultural ímpar para a identidade da cidade de Coimbra, constituindo agora um espaço descaraterizado. O espaço de caráter Humanístico, de conhecimento, culto e cultura, caiu na indiferença, e é agora um vazio preenchido por meros acasos e agitações impessoais. O Mosteiro de Santa Cruz, símbolo de uma identidade coletiva e dos seus estratos temporais, é envolto no esquecimento, sendo apenas o resultado de múltiplas adições e subtrações de diferentes épocas, tornando impercetível a sua leitura como um todo.O projeto tem como premissa o ressignificar do lugar, num gesto de continuidade com a memória e o simbolismo do mesmo. O novo programa surge do entendimento abrangente das relações com a cidade, onde a cultura se revela como uma oportunidade de mudar o seu rumo e de restabelecer novas dinâmicas. Não obstante, numa sociedade marcada pela transitoriedade, a arquitetura é obrigada a sofrer um processo de metamorfose: o conceito de efémero surge tendo em conta uma arquitetura reversível e intemporal, potenciadora de reinterpretações do passado e, ao mesmo tempo, de uma atmosfera sensorial, que celebra o instante como testemunho de comunicação simbólica e arquitetónica. Surgem assim, peças efémeras de distintas escalas, que acolhem o espaço através de uma conceção dinâmica, capaz de o transformar numa dança ritmada com flexibilidade e adaptabilidade. Estes elementos soltos, adequados ao ritmo da vida contemporânea, estabelecem uma relação com a preexistência, com os movimentos do corpo no espaço, e com os elementos da exposição, onde as sucessivas relações com a memória e o sensorial permitem a releitura dos seus estratos, marcando simultaneamente o seu presente, sem comprometer o futuro.Propõe-se assim, através de uma linguagem contemporânea, traduzir a narrativa que marcou e eternizou esta construção erguida pela fé e pela regra, perpetuada até ao presente, onde o projeto se torna um meio de lhe devolver a sua essência e caraterização perdida, eternizando-a.

The investigation is developed as a reflection about the vulnerability of contemporary cities, where the dialogues between the preexistence and the contemporary establish the guidelines of the project. Downtown (baixa) is a singular moment that brings together a unique historical and cultural heritage for the identity of the city of Coimbra, currently an uncharacterized space. The Humanistic space, of knowledge, cult and culture, collapse into indifference, featuring now a place compound by transitory moments and impersonal agitations. The Monastery of Santa Cruz is the symbol of a collective identity and its history, currently shrouded in oblivion, as the result of multiple additions and subtractions from different eras, making its reading as a whole imperceptible.The premise of the project is the resignification of the place in a gesture of continuity with its memory and symbolism. The new program arises from comprehend the relations between the people and the city, where culture reveals itself as an opportunity to change its course and generate new dynamics. However, in a society marked by transience, architecture is forced to undergo a process of metamorphosis: the concept of ephemeral appear considering a reversible and timelessness architecture, enhancing reinterpretations of the past and, at the same time, a sensorial atmosphere, that allows to reinterpret the history and the symbolism of the site. The ephemeral architectural pieces emerge in different scales, which embrace the space through a dynamic design, able to transform it into a rhythmic dance with flexibility and adaptability. These autonomous elements, are related with the rhythm of contemporary life, establish a connection with the preexistence, with the movements between the human scale and the space, and the elements of the exhibition, where the successive relationships with memory and the sensorial allows the re-reading of its strata, marking simultaneously its present, without compromising the future.Therefore, through a contemporary language, it is proposed a narrative that translate the trace and eternalized this construction erected by faith and the rule, perpetuated until the present, where the project becomes a way of restoring its lost essence and characterization, eternalizing it.
