Adaptabilidade do Espaço - Adaptabilidade e Flexibilidade como Valências Contra o Rigor do Tempo

Abstract

Um edifício tem, em média, um tempo de vida de cerca de 100 anos.Atualmente persiste a tendência em pensar a arquitetura de modo a priorizar o conceito de sustentabilidade. Desde a escolha dos materiais, a sistemas de fácil e rápida montagem/desmontagem e do cálculo das emissões de carbono em todo o processo daquilo que é o edifício, desde a matéria prima à sua reciclagem. Tudo isto resulta numa perda de identidade arquitetónica crescente pela sistemática efemerização do produto arquitetónico e pela sua impermanência no espaço.Face ao exposto, nesta dissertação é abordada outra forma de construir e de olhar a arquitetura, ao explorar temas como a adaptabilidade, a flexibilidade do espaço e a sua influência na durabilidade de um edifício. Por conseguinte, pretende-se perceber de que forma é benéfico desenhar um edifício capaz de se moldar à imprevisibilidade do tempo, e que se integre de forma “permanente” num local e até que ponto a escolha de certos materiais, a priori, menos sustentáveis, poderá exponenciar o tempo de vida do edifício e, assim, inverter a sua inviabilização.Esta abstração é explorada através do exercício desenvolvido na Unidade Curricular de Atelier de Projeto I e II B, através do projeto de um edifício de caráter educativo e de apoio à comunidade. Este foi pensado de forma a servir o programa a que é proposto, segundo uma estrutura que lhe possibilita transformar-se e adaptar-se a outros utilizadores e utilizações. O estrutural é desenhado enquanto arquitetura e, assim, o edifício será capaz de sobreviver e ser um ponto integrante e parte da identidade da urbe.

A building has an average lifespan of about 100 years.Currently, there is a tendency to think architecture in order to prioritize the sustainability concept. From the choice of materials, to systems for easy and faster assembly/disassembly and the calculation of carbon emissions throughout the entire process of what the building is, from the raw material to its recycling. This results in a growing loss of architectural identity due to the systematic ephemeralization of the architectural product and its impermanence in space.In this dissertation, another way of building and looking at sustainability is approached by exploring themes such as the adaptability and flexibility of space and its influence on a building’s durability. It is intended to understand to what extent it is not beneficial to design a building capable of molding itself to the unpredictability of time, a building that is “permanently” integrated in a place, and to what extent the choice of certain materials, a priori, less sustainable, it will not be able to exponentiate the lifetime of the building and thus reverse its unfeasibility.This abstraction is explored through the exercise developed in Atelier de Projeto’s I and II subject, through the project of an educational and community support character. It is designed in order to serve the program to which it is proposed, according to a structure that allows itself to transform to other users and uses. The structural is designed as architecture and, thus, the building will be able to survive and be an integral point and a part of the city’s identity.
