Relatório de Estágio Mestrado em Análises Clínicas

Abstract

The Master’s Degree in Clinical Analysis from the University of Coimbra culminates with a curricular internship, of professional nature, with the objectives of acquiring training, strengthening and applying the knowledge acquired throughout the master’s course in a real workplace environment. The curricular internship was at the Clinical Pathology Service (CPS) of the Sousa Martins Hospital, a part of the Guarda Local Health Unit (LHU). The CPS of the Guarda LHU is organized into five sectors, Biochemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Biology. After a brief description of this host institution and its operation, the present internship report is intended to describe the activities developed during the internship at the CPS of the Guarda LHU. The internship encompassed the four main areas of clinical and laboratory diagnosis -Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology - where I had the opportunity of working and putting into practice, consolidating, developing and deepening the knowledge acquired during the attendance of the master’s course. Nonetheless, the areas of Microbiology and Immunology are approached in a briefer way, whereas the most frequently determined parameters, as well as the used methodologies and equipments of the areas of Hematology and Biochemistry are described in a much deeper way. Furthermore, two clinical/study cases will be described which emphasize not only the fundamental role of the laboratory but also the need to relate the results of the various areas of which it is constituted, in order to obtain a diagnosis.

O Mestrado em Análises Clínicas da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra culmina com a realização de um estágio curricular, de índole profissional, cujos objetivos consistem na aquisição de formação, na sedimentação e aplicação dos conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo do mestrado em contexto real de trabalho. O estágio curricular decorreu no Serviço de Patologia Clínica (SPC) do Hospital Sousa Martins, inserido na Unidade Local de Saúde (ULS) da Guarda. O SPC da ULS da Guarda encontra-se organizado em cinco setores, Bioquímica, Hematologia, Microbiologia, Imunologia e Biologia Molecular. Após uma breve descrição desta instituição de acolhimento e do seu funcionamento, o presente relatório de estágio pretende descrever as atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio no SPC da ULS da Guarda. O estágio englobou as quatro principais áreas de diagnóstico clínico-laboratorial – Hematologia, Bioquímica, Microbiologia e Imunologia -, onde tive a oportunidade de trabalhar e colocar em prática, consolidar, desenvolver e aprofundar os conhecimentos adquiridos durante a frequência do mestrado. Contudo, são abordadas de forma mais breve as áreas de Microbiologia e de Imunologia e descritos de forma mais aprofundada os parâmetros analíticos mais frequentemente determinados nas áreas de Hematologia e de Bioquímica, bem como metodologias e equipamentos utilizados. Serão ainda descritos dois casos clínicos, que evidenciam não só o papel fundamental do laboratório bem como a necessidade de relacionar os resultados das várias áreas que o constituem para a obtenção de um diagnóstico.
