Relatório de Estágio e Monografia intitulada "Camellia sinensis e as suas propriedades medicinais"

Abstract

No âmbito da Unidade Curricular "Estágio" do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas, foi redigido o seguinte documento, que engloba não só os relatórios dos estágios referentes a Farmácia Comunitária na Farmácia Gonçalves e a Indústria Farmacêutica na Tilray Portugal, sendo que nestes é efetuada uma análise SWOT com o intuito de avaliar de forma crítica as forças (S), fraquezas (W), oportunidades (O) e ameaças (T) destes mesmos estágios, como também a monografia intitulada "Camellia sinensis e as suas propriedades medicinais". A planta Camellia sinensis é fonte de diferentes chás, classificados segundo o processamento e o grau de oxidação dos compostos bioativos. Esta bebida é rica em diversos compostos bioativos, dos quais se destacam as catequinas, que variam em função do tipo de chá. O chá verde é dos mais conhecidos e dos mais investigados, dada a sua composição rica em catequinas, em especial a epigalocatequina-3-galato, que são importantes antioxidantes.Esta dissertação aborda as principais etapas envolvidas na produção de chás, os principais compostos bioativos, as suas potencialidades, nomeadamente o seu caráter antioxidante, anti-inflamatório, neuroprotetor, cardioprotetor, antidiabético e anticancerígeno, trazendo benefícios ao tratamento e prevenção de certas patologias, como a doença de Alzheimer, a diabetes, a obesidade e o cancro. Dá-se enfase a ensaios in vivo e in vitro, e a ensaios clínicos. Por fim, são abordados aspetos relacionados com a segurança e a indisponibilidade das catequinas. De forma geral, não há dados suficientemente robustos sobre as mesmas, particularmente no que respeita a ensaios clínicos, que permitam substituir terapêuticas convencionais, pelo que é necessária uma maior investigação nesta área, para que estes produtos possam ser usados com eficácia e segurança na prevenção e/ou tratamento de algumas doenças.

The following document relative to the curricular unit "Internship" of the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, was written including not only the internship reports related to Community Pharmacy at Farmácia Gonçalves and Pharmaceutical Industry at Tilray Portugal, in which a SWOT analysis was performed to assess in a critical form the strengths (S), weaknesses (W), opportunities (O) and threats (T) of these same internships but also the monograph entitled "Camellia sinensis and its medicinal properties".Camellia sinensis is a source of different teas classified according to processing and degree of oxidation of bioactive compounds. This drink is rich in several bioactive compounds, including catechins, which vary depending on the type of tea. Green tea is one of the best known and most investigated, given its composition rich in catechins, in particular epigallocatechin-3-gallate which are important antioxidants. This dissertation addresses the main steps involved in the production of teas, the main bioactive compounds, their potentialities, namely their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, antidiabetic and anticancer character, bringing benefits in the treatment and prevention of certain pathologies, such as Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer. Emphasis is given using in vivo and in vitro assays and clinical trials. Finally, aspects related to the safety and unavailability of catechins are addressed. In generally, there is not enough robust data on these products, particularly with regard to clinical trials, to replace conventional therapies, so there is a need for more research in this area, so that these products can be used effectively and safely in the prevention and/or treatment of some diseases.
