Relatório de Estágios e Monografia intitulada “Infeções Sexualmente Transmissíveis de origem bacteriana: diagnóstico clínico e aconselhamento farmacêutico”

Abstract

Nos últimos anos, tem sido evidente o número crescente de infeções sexualmente transmissíveis. Estas infeções com elevadas morbilidades são uma ameaça para a saúde pública, bem como uma fonte de despesas a nível de sistemas de saúde. Exemplos dessas morbilidades são a infertilidade, a morte infantil, a cegueira, os problemas neurológicos entre outros. Nos dias de hoje, com toda a informação e acesso a cuidados de saúde na União Europeia e, com especial atenção em Portugal, era de esperar que os casos de infeções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST’s) fossem escassos. No entanto, não é essa a realidade que se faz sentir. Nesta monografia aborda-se o tema das infeções sexualmente transmissíveis de origem bacteriana, nomeadamente, a clamídia, a gonorreia e a sífilis, sendo estas as mais recorrentes. Analisa-se a sua incidência a nível da União Europeia em particular Portugal, as suas características e morbilidades associadas e o seu diagnóstico clínico. Relativamente ao diagnóstico clínico evidenciam-se os diferentes métodos de diagnósticos e respetivos métodos de colheita próprios, as vantagens e desvantagens de cada método, bem como possíveis abordagens futuras face aos desenvolvimentos científicos. Irão também ser enunciados os critérios de diagnóstico apresentados pela Direção geral de saúde (DGS) para o diagnóstico de cada infeção abordada. Por fim, realça-se o papel do farmacêutico, concretamente do farmacêutico em farmácias de oficina, no aconselhamento e educação para a saúde.

In recent years, the increasing number of sexually transmitted infections has been evident. These infections, with high morbidities are a threat to public health as well as a source of great expenses for health systems. Examples of these morbidities are infertility, infant death, blindness, neurological problems among others. Nowadays with all the information and access to health care in the European Union and, particularly, in Portugal, it was to be expected that cases of STI’s would be scarce. However, that is not the reality we have.In this paper, it will be addressed the subject of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) of bacterial origin, namely chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, which are the most recurrent. An analysis of their impact on the European Union, specifically in Portugal, will be made as well as its associated characteristics, morbidities, and their clinical diagnosis. In regard to the clinical diagnosis, the different diagnostic methods and their own sample collecting procedures will be discussed, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each method with the introduction of possible future approaches in light of scientific developments. It will also be evidenced the set out diagnostic criteria presented by the General health directorate (DGS) for the diagnosis of each of the infections addressed. Lastly, the role of the pharmacist, specifically the pharmacists working in pharmacies, in health counseling and as a promotor of health education will be discussed.
