Relatórios de Estágio e Monografia intitulada "Fitoterapia no tratamento da Infertilidade: Asparagus racemosus e Tribulus terrestris"

Abstract

Este documento compreende dois relatórios de estágio, respeitantes à realização de estágio curricular em Indústria Farmacêutica e Farmácia Comunitária, e uma monografia intitulada "Fitoterapia no tratamento da Infertilidade: Asparagus racemosus e Tribulus terrestris"A infertilidade é definida como a incapacidade de um casal engravidar após um ano de relações sexuais regulares e desprotegidas. Tratando-se de uma condição muito prevalente na sociedade e, tendo em conta as implicações que tem especialmente a nível psicológico, é preponderante a existência de terapêuticas que permitam o seu tratamento. Efetivamente, existem já inúmeras estratégias terapêuticas para o tratamento da infertilidade que variam entre medicação oral e técnicas de reprodução assistida. No entanto, os tratamentos até então disponíveis caracterizam-se pela negativa no que toca a efeitos secundários e, principalmente, custos associados. Desta forma, é extremamente importante a pesquisa de novas terapêuticas que permitam colmatar ou, pelo menos, atenuar as adversidades das já existentes.Neste contexto, os avanços científicos e tecnológicos, assim como ao uso tradicional de certas plantas sugerem algumas abordagens baseadas em fitoterapia, com potencial indicação terapêutica coadjuvante aos tratamentos já existentes no mercado. Neste âmbito, têm sido estudadas algumas plantas medicinais, destacando-se, as espécies Asparagus racemosus Willd. e Tribulus terrestris L. no tratamento da infertilidade feminina e masculina, respetivamente. Neste contexto, existem já alguns estudos de eficácia e segurança nomeadamente, in vitro, in vivo e ensaios clínicos que constituem alguma evidência para a utilização destas plantas; no entanto, são necessários estudos adicionais que assegurem a efetividade a longo prazo.

This document comprises two internship reports, about the performance of internship in Pharmavy Industry and Community Pharmacy, and a monograph entitled "Phytotherapy in the treatment of infertility: Asparagus racemosus and Tribulus terrestris"Infertility is defined as the failure of a couple to become pregnant after 1 year of regular, unprotected intercourse. As it is a very prevalent condition in society and, taking into account the implications it has, especially at a psychological level, the existence of therapies that allow its treatment is extremely important. In fact, there are already numerous therapeutic strategies for the treatment of infertility, ranging from oral medication to assisted reproduction techniques. However, the treatments available so far are negatively characterized by their side effects and, mainly, associated costs. In this way, it is extremely important to research new therapies that make it possible to overcome or, at least, mitigate the adversities of the existing ones.In this context, the scientific and technological advances, as well as the traditional use of certain plants, appear some approaches based on phytotherapy with potential therapheutic indication supporting the treatments already on the market. Consequently, some medicinal plants have been studied especially the species Asparagus racemosus Wild. and Tribulus terrestris L. in the treatment of female and male infertility, respectively. In this context, there are already some efficacy and safety studies, namely, in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials that provide some evidence for the use of these plants; however, further studies are needed to ensure long-term effectiveness.
