Weatherproof : incursões no pós-natural a partir da minha prática artística

Abstract

No decorrer de vinte e dois anos desenvolvi, em diversos corpos de trabalho, um pensamento plástico baseado numa continuidade de reflexões e investigações sobre as relações entre o humano, natureza e cultura, por um lado, e o binómio artificial/natural, por outro. O pensamento ecológico que atravessa a minha obra emerge e desenvolve-se em sistemas e estruturas que dependem e se relacionam com vivências e experiências permeáveis a acontecimentos exteriores. Esta tese analisa e organiza este pensamento, reequaciona a sua linguagem e procura enquadrar o seu território de atuação através de exercícios de leitura e releitura, da minha obra, dos textos e das circunstâncias que a informam, mas também das relações que os meus trabalhos foram construindo entre si e com o mundo ao longo dos anos. Para me amparar neste esforço, convoco um conjunto de autores aos quais reconheço o trabalho original e necessário de aprofundar a ideia de uma continuidade total entre o humano e o além do humano.

Over the course of twenty-two years I have developed, in different bodies of work, a visual and plastic thinking based on a continuity of reflections and investigations on the relationships between the human, the natural and the cultural while also focusing on the artificial/natural binomial. The ecological thinking that runs through my work emerges and develops in systems and structures that depend on and relate to experiences that are permeable to external events. This thesis analyzes and organizes this thinking, reexamines its language, and seeks to frame its field of action through several reading exercises: of my own work, of the texts and circumstances that inform it, but also of the relationships my works have established over the years, between themselves and with the world. To aid me in this effort, I summon a plethora of authors to whom I recognize the necessary and original work of deepening the notion of a total continuity between the human and the other than human.
