Abstract

REINTERPRETAR E REABILITAR - CENTRO EDUCATIVO E CULTURAL DE SANTA CRUZ.Resumo.O término das ordens religiosas em Portugal levou à decadência da maior parte dos conjuntos monásticos que se encontravam no ativo. Grande parte destes mosteiros localizavam-se nos arredores das cidades medievais o que estagnava os seus crescimentos. Este acontecimento em conjuntura com o crescimento da população das cidades e osdesenvolvimentos tecnológicos fez com que estes mosteiros fossem absorvidos, sendo sacrifcada a sua coesão original. Nesta altura, Coimbra reduzia-se maioritariamente ao núcleo da Alta e mais alguns assentamentos populacionais na Baixa e Rua da Sofa, encontrando-se limitada a norte e nascente pelo Mosteiro de Santa Cruz e a sua cerca. A vontade de criar um boulevard pelo vale fez com quea coesão monástica fosseperdida tendo sido sacrifcados dois dos principais elementos do mosteiro como a torre dos sinos de Santa Cruz e parte do dormitório que fazia o encerramento do Claustro da manga.A presente dissertação procura dar resposta à desvalorização atual do Vale de Santa Cruz através de uma proposta de intervenção no espaço urbano e, mais especifcamente, a reabilitação do atual edifício da P.S.P. REINTERPRET AND REHABILITATE - Educational and cultural center of Santa Cruz.Abstract.The end of the religious orders in Portugal led to the decline of most of the monastic structures that mad been. Most of these monasteries were located on the outskirts of medieval cities, which stagnated their growth. This situations, together with the growth of cities population and t echnological developments, meant that these monasteries were absorbed, sacrifcing their original cohesion. At this time, Coimbra was reduced mainly to the Alta and some other population settlements in Baixa and Rua da Sofa, being limited to the north and east mainly by the Santa Cruz Monastery and its wall. The desire to create a boulevard through the valley caused the monastic cohesion to be lost and two of the main elements of the monastery were sacrifced, such as the bell tower of Santa Cruz and par t of the dormitory that closed the Cloister of Manga.The present dissertation seeks to respond to the current devaluation of the Santa Cruz Valley through a proposal of intervention in the urban space and, more specifcally, the rehabilitation of the current Police station (former Santa Cruz barn) and the construction of a vertical element alluding to the demolished tower, both corresponding to the extension of themuseography program proposed for themonastery.Keywords: Religious Orders, Monastic Ensembles, Coimbra, Monastery of Santa Cruz,Bell Tower, Barn, Rehabilitation, Museographys.Duarte Sobral Fontainha, Coimbra.
