Abstract

Esta dissertação propõe pensar a Autoestrada como elemento dinamizador das vivências urbanas das áreas que cruza. A Autoestrada, elemento comumente desligado e estanque das áreas circundantes, poderá de alguma forma relacionar-se com a malha urbana que a envolve? Nesta dissertação procuramos uma resposta a esta pergunta sendo que para isso questionamos os princípios segundo os quais este tipo de vias se rege e relaciona com a malha urbana. Assentámos esta procura de relacionamento no Município de Oliveira do Bairro e na Autoestrada nº 1. Foi deste exemplo de estudo que partimos para a nossa interpretação das questões levantadas sobre a relação entre estas entidades. O nosso objetivo foi o de interrogar o porquê desta difícil relação Autoestrada-Cidade. Procuramos perceber o advento do Modernismo no qual a mistura de peões e veículos – motorizados e não motorizados – e, destes com as funções urbanas se vão desagradando. Sabemos que esta mistura é difícil uma vez que as caraterísticas de todas essas entidades são muito díspares e uma fusão precipitada dos mesmos poderia gerar inúmeras consequências negativas, tanto a nível desse tipo de via como da malha urbana que o circunda. Desta forma, o que procuramos é sobretudo questionar o pensamento na elaboração deste elemento – a Autoestrada – procurando transformar a sua concretização numa oportunidade de relacionamento entre as duas margens da paisagem que esta “fractura”.

This dissertation proposes us to think of the highway as a dynamic element of urban experiences in the areas it crosses. Can the motorway, which is commonly disconnected and watertight from the surrounding areas, be able to relate in some way to the urban network that surrounds it? In this dissertation we will look for an answer to this question and for that we will question the principles according to which these types of roads are governed and related to the urban fabric.We based this search for a relationship between the highway and the urban network in the Municipality of Oliveira do Bairro and Autoestrada nº 1. It was in this example/ case of study that we started to interpret the questions raised about the cold relationship between these two players. The objective we sought was mainly to question the reasons for this non-relationship. We look for the “Initial Modern” feeling in which the mix of pedestrians, vehicles - motorized and non-motorized - and functions meet and live together at the same time. The questions we raise in this dissertation are nothing more than the search for this relationship - via, urban fabric - and how to relate all the elements and their present heterogeneities. We know that this mixture is difficult since the characteristics of the actors are very disparate and an unreasonable fusion of them would bring countless negative consequences, both in terms of the high-speed road and the urban network that surrounds it. Therefore, our main goal is to question the way of thinking in the elaboration of this element - Autoestrada - trying to transform its practical character into an opportunity of relationship between the two margins of the linear cut of the landscape caused by it.
