História e Ficção nas Literaturas da África Subsaariana: uma Introdução Crítica aos seus Regimes de Verdade

Abstract

A introdução ao dossiê Regimes de verdade. História e ficção nas literaturas da África subsaariana começa por se debruçar sobre o conceito de “regime de verdade” cunhado por Foucault, para depois refletir sobre a distinção entre historiografia e ficção a partir da maneira como ambas pretendem dizer a verdade. Enquanto a primeira estabelece o seu regime de verdade sobre premissas epistemológicas, a segunda fá-lo a partir de premissas estéticas. Argumentamos que esta distinção entre ambos os regimes depende do contexto no qual os textos são elaborados e que a suposta cientificidade da escrita histórica é consequência de uma perspetiva particular que se tornou hegemónica. A questão das diferenças estilísticas entre ambas as escritas constitui o cerne da primeira parte do artigo, que, na segunda parte, questiona essa diferenciação no contexto das literaturas africanas subsaarianas. Fá-lo, mais especificamente, a partir do romance histórico, um género de origem europeia e reinventado em moldes próprios por escritores/as pós-coloniais. A partir desta produção inovadora, revisitamos noções como “arquivo”, “oralidade”, “perspetiva pós-colonial”, para evidenciar algumas características de uma narração que questiona a relação entre historiografia e ficção. Esta abordagem teórica permite, por fim, uma contextualização matizada dos textos deste dossiê.

The introduction to the dossier Regimes of Truth: History and Fiction in the Literatures of Sub-Saharan Africa begins by exploring the concept “regime of truth” coined by Foucault, and then reflects on the distinction between historiography and fiction based on the way by which both intend to tell the truth. While the first establishes its regime of truth on epistemological premises, the second relies on aesthetic premises. We argue that this distinction between both regimes depends on the context in which texts are made and that the supposed scientificity of historical writing is a consequence of a particular perspective that has become hegemonic. The question of stylistic differences between both writings constitutes the core of the first part of the article, which, in the second part, questions this differentiation in the context of Sub-Saharan African literatures. It refers, more specifically, to the historical novel, a genre of European origin, that has been reinvented in their own terms by post-colonial writers. Based on this innovative production, we revisit notions such as “archive”, “orality”, “post-colonial perspective”, to highlight some characteristics of a type of narration that questions the relationship between historiography and fiction. Finally, this theoretical approach paves the way for a sophisticated contextualization of the articles of this dossier.
