Teatro-Club como Museu: 28 anos de história

Abstract

Este trabalho foi realizado no âmbito do estágio integrado realizado no Museu Municipal de Esposende do Mestrado de Arte e Património, na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. O Museu Municipal de Esposende está instalado no edifício do antigo Teatro-Club de Esposende. Em 2021 o edifício celebrou 111 anos aberto ao público, 28 destes enquanto museu. Este relatório final de estágio tem dois objetivos. Primeiramente, dar a conhecer a história do edifício, desde a sua inauguração como teatro até à atualidade como museu, marco cultural do concelho de Esposende. A história deste edifício é relevante de um ponto de vista cultural e histórico. Como Teatro-Club estabelece-se como um marco histórico para Esposende, tanto pelo arquiteto que o projeta como pela nova dinâmica social que introduziu na então vila. Como Museu Municipal representa uma dupla meta cultural, uma vez que, antes da sua criação, Esposende não tinha ainda museu e porque foi usado como equipamento cultural de destaque para marcar o dia de Elevação de Esposende a Cidade, inaugurando nesse dia tão especial, 19 de agosto de 1993. A segunda parte do relatório consta do trabalho de investigação realizado durante o estágio, que teve como foco o levantamento e organização dos diversos documentos encontrados no arquivo do Museu com vista a uma futura utilização destes, assim como os serviços que o Museu proporciona, quais as exposições realizadas ao longo dos anos e também os visitantes que recebeu. Este relatório permitiu perceber que o edifício continua a impor-se como um ponto importante da comunidade, no entanto, embora verifique avanços neste aspeto, tem ainda potencial de desenvolvimento, procurando melhores formas de comunicação e projeção da sua existência.

This work was carried out during the internship held at the Esposende Municipal Museum for the Master of Art and Heritage, at the Faculty of Art of the University of Coimbra. Esposende Municipal Museum is housed in the former Esposende Theater-Club building. In 2021 the building celebrated 111 years of open to the public, 28 of these as a museum.This final report has two objectives: the first one aims to make known the history of the building, from its opening as a theater to the present day as a museum, a cultural landmark in the municipality of Esposende. The history of this building is relevant from a cultural and historical point of view. As a Theater Club, it establishes itself as a historical landmark for Esposende, both for the architect who designed it and for the new social dynamics he introduced in the then village. As a Municipal Museum, it represents a double cultural goal. This is both because, before its creation, Esposende did not yet have a museum and because it was used as a piece of outstanding cultural equipment to mark the day of Elevation of Esposende to City, inaugurating on this very special day, 19 of August 1993. The second part of the report consists of the research work carried out during the internship, which focused on the collection and organization of the various documents found in the Museum's archive with a view to their future use. It also consists of an analysis of the services the Museum provides, which exhibitions held over the years, and the visitors it has received. This report showed that the building continues to impose itself both as a landmark and an important point of the community, however, although there are advances in this aspect, it still has development potential, looking for better ways of communication and projection of its existence.
